About us

Welcome to the Narragansett Chapter Young Members 20s/30s Meetup! This Meetup is sponsored by the Narragansett Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club (Joining this Meetup Group does not automatically make you an AMC member).

Our trip leaders host local hikes, bike rides, and social events aimed at outdoorsy 20-40ish years old. We offer activities throughout RI and surrounding areas both after work and on the weekends. Joining a YM activity is a great way to make new friends and explore the area's natural beauty.

The purpose of our Meetup is to introduce others to the wonderful outdoor opportunities offered by the AMC Narragansett Chapter Young Members 20s/30s. As a Meetup member, you have no obligation to join the AMC.But, if you enjoy participating in our events, we hope you will consider joining the AMC (https://www.outdoors.org/join-today?chapter=NA&campaign=70150000001EMs5AAG).

Please, only RSVP if you plan on attending the event. For the consideration of our leaders, we ask that you contact us if you have RSVP'ed and can no longer attend.

Our events are led by highly qualified, trained AMC volunteers who are always concerned about safety. They take every precaution to assure participant risk is minimized and fun is maximized.

If you would like to learn more about our Chapter, please visit our website at outdoors.org/narragansett (https://www.outdoors.org/narragansett/)!

Description: Join the Narragansett Chapter 20s & 30s on a four-day car camping trip to Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine!
Campsites must be booked six months in advance, so the initial sign-up deadline for this event is 31 January 2026. We will leave the registration open until a few days before the event in case those who signed up are unable to attend or in case additional campsites become available, but we cannot guarantee a spot for anyone who signs up after 31 January.
Interested in a longer trip? We’re also visiting the 100 Mile Wilderness from August 30 - September 1. It’s about 2.5 hours north of Acadia.
Cost Approximately $110, broken down as follows:
$45 for the campsite ($15 per night)* $35 for a 7-day pass for the park (paid by card when entering park) $15 for showers ($5 per person, assuming you want to shower at the YMCA. See “Campsite” section below) $15 for one bundle of locally-purchased firewood This cost excludes food. Participants are responsible for their own food. See “Where to Eat” and “What to Bring” sections below.

    • Participants will be expected to pay trip leaders for the cost of the campsite ($45) after they’ve been confirmed for the trip and before the leaders book them a campsite. Leaders will book the first round of campsites in February and will provide more details to registered participants. Payment can be sent via Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal.
Participant Requirements All participants must be approved by trip leaders. Participants must have attended at least one Narragansett Chapter 20s and 30s camping weekend trip so that the leader may gauge their readiness for this camping trip.
Participants should understand that the primary form of entertainment on this trip will be hiking and other outdoor activities, and they should therefore have the physical capability to engage in such activities.
Leaders reserve the right to request that participants attend additional AMC events prior to being approved for this Acadia trip, and they also reserve the right to reject participants. Leaders may call people who sign up to ask additional questions about their readiness for this event.
Campsite We will be booking multiple sites in the Blackwoods Campground and assigning these sites to registered participants. This campground is an official campground located within the borders of the park (as opposed to private campsites outside of the park), and it is relatively close to all of the popular hikes.
The campground offers: Potable water for drinking/cooking Flush toilets Fire rings and grills The chance to get off the grid (read: there is little to no cell reception)
Note that the campground itself does not have showers, but there are a few private options for showers nearby: The Otter Creek facility just a few minutes outside of the campground offers coin operated showers. We’ll call the facility for specific prices when the season begins, but it looks to be a minimum of $7 for 5 minutes of hot water, and then you’d pay for every additional minute of water that you’d like The Mt. Desert YMCA about 15 minutes from the campground has showers for a flat $5 fee. You don’t need a membership, but you will have to sign forms and be added to their system for insurance/legal purposes.
Additionally note there is no camp store inside the campground, but there are convenience stores a short drive away. The town of Bar Harbor is also approximately 15 minutes away, and they have standard grocery stores.
Finally, note that campsites are limited to one car each. All other cars must park in nearby overflow lots. We are aiming for 2 people per campsite, though this may change based on number of participants and tent size.
Again, THERE IS LITTLE TO NO CELL RECEPTION IN THE PARK. Please plan accordingly.

What to Do In The Park Since we’re expecting a large group, we will not have a formal itinerary. Participants should attend this trip with the expectation that they will be responsible for planning their own day-to-day activities. The park offers a variety of outdoor physical activities.
What to Eat Participants are expected to bring their own food and snacks for all meals.
The town of Bar Harbor is 15 minutes away with options for food, but we prefer eating around the campfire. Please plan accordingly.
Weather The average high in August is in the 70s, while the average low is in the 50s. Fog is common, and our campground is near the coast, so expect damp conditions even if it doesn’t rain.
    What to Bring
“Housing” Tent (including rainfly/tarp for the top of the tent) Sleeping bag Sleeping pad Headlamp (so you can find your way around the campground and find the toilets in the dark) Camp chair Sleeping bag liner (optional) Pillow (optional) Portable lamp for inside the tent/around the campfire (optional) Blanket (optional) Tent footprint/tarp for beneath the tent to protect against rain and moisture (optional)

    Audience: 20’s & 30’s

Description: Join the Narragansett 20s & 30s on a three-day car camping trip by AMC’s 100 Mile Wilderness region in Maine! The 100 Mile Wilderness is a 100-mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail that's well-known for being challenging and remote. During the day, you'll have the opportunity to embark on some safe day hikes in a choose your own adventure style, and at night we'll be car camping nearby at a popular site with running water, showers, and potentially, hot meals. No official AMC hikes will be run as part of this camping event, but participants are free to connect with each other and explore the surrounding area.
This car camping trip immediately follows a separate 20s/30s car camping trip to Acadia National Park approximately 2.5 hours south of the 100 Mile Wilderness. We're expecting that some people will want to attend both camping trips, and Acadia campsites for the month of August have to be booked in February, so we're gauging interest in both of these events now. Once we have a headcount for this 100 Mile Wilderness trip and have booked sites for the Acadia trip, we will plan and secure a specific campsite in the 100 Mile Wilderness.
We are hoping to finalize the group list for both this trip and the Acadia trip by the end of January 2026. Registration will remain open until a few days before the event in August in case registered participants are unable to attend or additional campsites become available; however, we cannot guarantee a spot for anyone who signs up after January 31, 2026 .
Cost Participants can expect to pay between $30 and $60 for the entire weekend’s campsite registration fees. This cost does not include food. Participants are responsible for providing their own food. Please see the “What to Eat” and “What to Bring” sections below.

    • Participants will be expected to pay trip leaders for the above cost of the campsite sometime in February after they’ve been confirmed for the trip and before the leaders book them a campsite. Payment can be sent via Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal.
Participant Requirements All participants must be approved by the trip leaders. What to Eat Participants are expected to bring their own food and snacks for all meals. While it's possible that our campsite will offer meals, we cannot guarantee that it will, and either way, we plan to eat primarily around the campfire. The 100 Mile Wilderness is not particularly close to stores and restaurants, so please plan accordingly.
