WALK DESCRIPTION:
This is a picturesque walk through the lush Otway ranges forest. At the time of the preview the tree ferns were abundant due to recent rain. Also, the waterfalls were flowing strongly and quite spectacular.
The Medium group will start from Blanket Leaf picnic area and will follow the gradual forest path through tree fern gullies towards the Erskine Falls car park for about 4 km. From here the Medium group will follow the same track as the Easy/Medium group.
The Easy/Medium group will start from the Erskine Falls car park and descend about 250 steps to the bottom of the falls.
Along the way there are two magnificent lookout platforms. At the bottom of the falls there are some lovely places to have lunch, and if it`s a nice day an opportunity for a swim or to dip your feet into some refreshing water. The rest of the walk is only about 8km back to the Lorne township. However, although the distance is not too great, there are multiple river crossings and several fallen tree obstacles blocking the track that need to be traversed. Some of the rocks may be slippery. Therefore, good balance and confidence are required for the river crossings. If you are more comfortable using hiking poles feel free to bring those.
All going well there may be enough time to pick up an ice cream or coffee in town, before walking a final 1 km to the bus
meeting point.
Please note that at this time of year there is always a possibility of encountering snakes, and appropriate leg covering is
recommended. As the weather can be warm at this time of year, please carry at least 2 litres of water.

CAN I MEET AT THE START OF THE WALK? No! Since Sunday Bus walks are generally walks starting and finishing at two widely separated locations we do not accept walkers meeting at the start of the walk. There is no way for them to get back to their transport. We can arrange for a pick-up and drop-off at a designated location along the route closer to Melbourne, however, the full bus fee is still payable since a seat has to be kept free on the bus.
.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Registration (membership) on Meetup is not the same as paid-up Membership of MBW. To become a paid-up Member with online booking and other benefits see: https://mbw.org.au/MBW_membership.php
