Science Cafe NH provides an informal setting for community members to engage with experts and discuss the dual effects of digital technology on the cognitive and social development of children. Attendees can expect a lively conversation covering both the benefits, such as enhanced critical thinking and access to personalized learning, and the challenges, including screen overuse and potential impacts on attention and social skills. The discussion aims to foster understanding of how factors like content quality, duration of use, and the context of technology engagement shape developmental outcomes in different pediatric age groups.
Science Cafe NH's Panelists for this event:
• Carmela Amato-Wierda: An Associate Professor of Chemistry and Materials Science at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). She is also the Director of UNH Tech Camp and the Tech for Teachers Institute, and serves as Principal Investigator for NH CREATES.
• Dr. Mario Andrade: Superintendent of Schools for the Nashua School District, bringing nearly 25 years of experience in public education, including roles as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and superintendent in both NH and Rhode Island.
• Tricia Brannen: Executive Director of YouthWell New Hampshire. Tricia has served in both business and school counseling roles supporting students K-12.
• Neil Claffey: A Nashua High School social studies teacher from 1989-2021 and was elected to the Nashua Board of Education in 2021. He currently teaches 4th, 5th and 7th grade math at the Lexington (MA) Singapore School.
• Heather Inyart: Executive Director of Media Power Youth, a Manchester, NH based nonprofit. She has led Media Power Youth in expanding media literacy and social-emotional learning opportunities for youth across NH.
Science Cafe NH is a public good intended to inform and educate New Hampshire citizens by connecting them directly with scientists and other experts in the field.

SCNH's goal is to help create a more informed New Hampshire. As always, Science Cafe NH is FREE and open to all. Our attendees can learn, ask questions and make a few new friends.

Join us for lots of fun and laughs on Tuesday nights at 6:15 pm to check-in/pay/mingle then bowl from 6:30 pm until about 9:00 pm. We pay $12/week per person to bowl. There are many alley balls, in different weights and finger sizes, available for use at no cost. Shoe rental is available for $4 as well. We started this group in the summer of 2013 and get new people from all age groups all the time. Skill is not important; a great sense of humor and willingness to have fun with terrific friends are the only requirements. So come join us for a great night out every Tuesday. We are a Social Bowling Group (non-league) so if you cannot make it on any given Tuesday night, that is okay! You don't have to pay for any night that you don't bowl. This is an all-ages, very welcoming group for both men and women.

City Sports Grille has great pub grub & spirits. They serve while you bowl too!!

Dinner on the Portofino’s patio. Good Stuff Mike Kelly karaoke is from 5:30-9:00, sing or watch. Portofino’s has fantastic food. Bring a jacket and bug spray in case it gets chilly or there’s mosquitoes.
