About us
This group is for people that like to have fun and adventure in the great outdoors; hiking in the foothills and mountains, camping, funyaking on the French Broad, whitewater rafting on the Nolichucky, biking the Virginia Creeper, outdoor live music, backpacking, spelunking and more. The hikes I lead will be rated either "Moderate", "Difficult" or "Strenuous" and most are what I would call aerobic hiking, but with lots of short stops to appreciate what Mother Nature has to show us! I'm open to others leading easier hikes and making suggestions. An example of "Moderate" would be the Lake Norman State Park "Lake Shore Trail" with one rest/food stop in the middle and some short water breaks etc. I've had several Red Cross first aid courses over the years, including the outdoor trauma course. JOIN US FOR SOME FUN!
If you have an idea then post it or send me a message!
BREAKING RULES WILL GET YOU THROWN OUT:
1. No discussing or wearing of anything political or governmental will be tolerated
2. No physical of mental abuse will be tolerated
3. No showing multiple times - please cancel at least 1 hour before the meet time
4. No activity for 6 months

Otter Falls Hike & The Corklickers at Grandfather Winery
Otter Falls, 825 Slyland Dr, Seven Devils, NC, USThe Otter Falls sign is not correct, I've been here several times and it's a easy side of diffficult hike at the most if you do all 5 miles.
I won't be on the hike, I'm going to Grandfather Winery with the Corklickers early to help set up and do a sound check.
Bring water and a snack or trail lunch
There are lots of seats and Grandfather, and a majority are in the shade/away from rain!!!

Sunday, July 12, 2026
12:00 PM 4:00 PMThe Lazy Bear Eatery food truck is back for the season! They’re unique not only for the mouthwatering menu but also for its heartwarming start-up story. This culinary adventure blossomed from a special friendship-turned-partnership when Bob and Sandy, wine club members and close friends of the Tatums, joined forces with the Vineyard to create a seasonal on-site dining experience. Lazy Bear offers a menu that complements our wines perfectly with finger-licking options such as the NC BBQ Sandwich, Maine Lobster Roll, Honey Glaze Brussels, and so much more!

The Three Rivers Land Trust hosts an annual Uwharrie Trail Thru Hike each year in October. This North Carolina trek is 3 nights, 4 days on the 40-mile trail (about 10 miles per day). Registration opens on Tuesday, February 10 and the early registration fee is $150. This fee covers aide stations, port a jons at camps, and dinner every night. You bring your own gear (list to be provided) and breakfast & lunch/trail snacks. Read all about it here: https://trlt.org/uwharrie-trail-thru-hike/ Registration caps at 100 hikers and fills up every year.
This is a beginner-friendly event with lots of hikers trying multiday backpacking for the first time. Let's train and prep together! We'll hike several NC backpacking routes between registration and the event so we can train, organize our packs and share trail and gear tips. If you don't have backpacking gear yet, you have a few months to get the essentials.
Register starting Feb. 10, then sign up for this meetup event and drop a comment here indicating you've registered. If you're interested in meetup backpacking events but don't want to do the thru hike, drop a comment in to let me know you may join the training hikes.
