Trails and Ales

I really enjoy this area of RMNP. A bit less crowded than the main section, and some great scenery if you like rushing water and water falls. We will plan to hike to Ouzel Falls and spend a bit of time walking behind the falls as well. After this, we will continue another 2 miles to Ouzel Lake where we will take a break and have some lunch before heading back.

Bring spikes, there is some snow by the lake.

We are meeting in Lyons to carpool, if you want to skip that then be at the trailhead at 8:15

We did this hike a few weeks ago and the wildflowers around the Red Feather Lakes area along with the flow in Pleasantly Surprised Falls was just getting going! I suspect by this time of year we should have even more wildflowers and a falls that probably has almost hit it's maximum flow for the year.
They say there was an ole' mountain man that came upon these hills many moons ago and pondered the name of one of them as the sun set in the distance. "Man that is Awesome" he exclaimed! The name stuck along with a falls that he was pleasant surprised to see. ; ) C'mon out and relive one mountain mans experiences of the Red Feather Lakes area. We'll hike up to Mount Awesome and over to Pleasantly Surprised Falls which should provide some amazing views of the surrounding high peaks. Please expect to go at a moderate pace along the 6 mile hike gaining about 800 feet in elevation gain crossing through meadows of ponderosa pine and rocky outcroppings. We'll head up to the Potbelly Restaurant for some post-hike sustenance. : )

Directions from Fort Collins:
Take 287 North to 74E and go west on 74E (You'll see The Forks on the corner)
Drive about 16 miles up 74E until you see 68C (Look for signs for Shambala Spiritual Center and Boy Scout Camp) Turn left there
Drive about 4 miles up 68 C and you'll see the trailhead on your right

We will meet at the covered gazebo to do a quick circle of introductions and have a leisurely social hike to catch up on our week and meet some new friends along with old friends on a weekly basis!!!

Popular trail offering views of Denver, the Front Range and wildlife. Bluffs Regional Park Trail is a 2.8 mile loop trail located in Lone Tree that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. Two overlooks add about a half-mile each. Minimal elevation gain. Dog friendly, on-leash.

We can go longer than the 2.8 miles to visit Lonehenge, aka the stone benches, which adds about 1.6 miles to the hike.

Hopefully we’ll catch an amazing sunset!!

Afterwards, we’ll head over to Clock Tower Grill. They have a great happy hour food/drink menu until 7 pm. Nice covered patio. We celebrate birthdays! Let us know, and we’ll get a slice of their awesome Oreo Ice Cream Cake to share!
