Amador Flyfishers

This outing is only available to Amador Flyfishers PAID MEMBERS. Sign ups are limited to 10 attendees per outing. The Thursday outing is the most popular. Priority for Saturday May 9th will go to those NOT signed up for Thursday's May 7th outing.
We will meet both days at Gold County Lanes located at 81 Ridge Rd., Sutter Creek, Ca. at 8 A.M. Please don't be late. IF YOU HAVE SIGNED UP AND CANNOT MAKE IT, PLEASE CONTACT ME OR LET ANOTHER ATTENDEE KNOW SO THAT WE ARE NOT WAITING FOR YOU. We will caravan down to the ponds.
This outings difficulty level is EASY. The ponds are best fished from a float tube. The ponds can also be fished by wading out from the shore or in some cases from shore. You can either "wet wade" or use waders.
Essentials include:
4 or 6 wt. Fly Rod, Floating Line, Float Tube, Life Vest
Sun Screen, Rain Jacket, Sunglasses, Fins
Fly Patterns including:
Bass Poppers, Leeches, Rubber Legs,
Woolly Bugs, Woolly Buggers, Various Nymphs
The ponds are filled primarily with large mouth bass and average between 10-12 inches. There are also some blue gill and perch. THE PONDS ARE CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. PLEASE PINCH DOWN ALL THE BARBS ON THE FLIES and/or HOOKS YOU USE.

• What to bring
Bring a lunch, something to drink and a lawn chair. We will break for lunch between noon and 1 p.m.

Tenkara or fixed line fishing is an ageless technique. Modern Tenkara developed in Japan a few centuries ago with bamboo multi piece rods and horse hair lines. Since then telescoping graphite rods and tapered braided line, level line and floating pvc lines have become standard.

So now is your chance to give it a go. If you have a tenkara rod and have not used it yet or have taken it out a few times come to this outing. We will go over the basics of setup, casting, and landing a fish (hopefully).

We will meet at the first West Fork Carson River bridge on Highway 88 in Hope Valley at 8am. From there we will head into the meadow, set up our rods have some demonstrations and practice some casting then fish the meadow for a bit. After that we will split up and hit some nearby creeks or other sections of the West Fork Carson above that bridge or below the highway 89 bridge where the riparian is heavy and the fishing is fun.

The number of spots will be limited to 10 so we can help everyone and when we split up and hit the smaller spots not get over crowed on those creeks.

Gear: Any Tenkara rod, line, tippet in the 5/6/7x range, tenkara flies if you have them and the classic Sierra dries and nymphs. I will bring some 3.5 level line so if you don't have a line for your rod we can get you going. Waders, net, staff, lunch, fluids. There is a restroom on hwy 88 near the 89 junction. The cafe, Hope Valley Bar and Grill, just past the old Sorenson's makes a good meal as well.

This guy, Tankara Addict, fishes small creeks and is not teaching but showing how Tenkara catches fish of all sizes, watch his techniques once you have viewed some other beginner videos.

For about $200 you can get someone a nice setup from any of the US based rod companies. A US based company will be easier to deal with if you need replacement parts. There are small rods in the 8 to 10 foot range great for our smaller creeks in heavy riparian, and rods that 'zoom' to two to three lengths making them versatile for all water sizes and rods for targeting large fish. I have a 10' and a zoom 10', 11.5, 12.5'.
