About us
Do you like horror movies? Do you like chatting about them with friends but all your friends hate horror movies? If so, this may be the group for you! 😁
We will share our love of horror movies, chat about our favorites, get recommendations, and have a laugh about all things spooky.
Whether you like a little scare every now and then or love all things terrifying, all are welcome! Everyone is free to love, hate, or feel indifferent about any horror movie. This is a safe space. ☺️
Here are the kind of events we host:
- Happy Horror Hours 👻🍹 - We'll pick a horror genre/sub-genre (e.g. haunted houses) and create a Watch List for the event. You can watch all or some of them beforehand. Think of it like a book club but with movies.
- Horror Movie Outings 😱🎬🍿 - Let's go to the cinema and watch a horror flick! We'll pick a movie, theater, date, and time. You'll buy your own ticket and attend the screening. Afterwards, we'll go somewhere to chat about the movie.
- Horror Movie Online Watch Parties 🧛♂️🧟♀️💻 - Join us for virtual movie night to watch horror movies.
- Horror Trivia 💀❓ - Every few months, we'll have (or attend) a horror-themed trivia night.

Happy Horror Hour - Time Travel Horror 🕰️💀🕰️
Grata's Pizzeria & Pub, 2700 South Lamar Blvd ,, Austin, TX, USTick-Tock, Time's Up, You're Dead!
It's about TIME we did a Time Travel Happy Horror Hour. We'll be discussing five movies that are sure to send you for a loop... a TIME LOOP that is. Hop into the Time Machine with us and watch these Terrifying Time-Twisting films. Then we'll have a Terrific Time discussing them over food and drinks.
All of these are streaming on Prime except Happy Death Day (on HBO), and that movie has a sequel, if you're interested
Speaking of sequels: in case you didn't know, Army of Darkness is a direct sequel to Evil Dead II, and it picks up right where Evil Dead II ends. If you haven't seen Evil Dead II yet, I HIGHLY recommend you watch it first. It's absolutely one of the greatest horror comedies ever made.
And yes, Donnie Darko isn't technically horror, but we make exceptions for horror-adjacent films, and that one is spooky enough to count. There is a Director's Cut available to stream too, if you prefer to watch that version.
WATCHLIST
- Happy Death Day (2017) - HBO
- The House at the End of Time (2013) - Prime, Tubi, Hoopla, Kanopy, Pluto, Plex
- Last Night in Soho (2021) - Prime
- Army of Darkness (1992) - Prime (pictured)
- Donnie Darko (2001) - Prime, Hulu, Disney, Tubi, Kanopy, Pluto, Plex
Note:* Platform availability may change at any time. Check JustWatch to find alternative platforms. Be sure to check the year to ensure you are watching the correct film.*
HOW HAPPY HORROR HOUR WORKS
Before the event …
- Watch the movies from the Watch List at home on your own. We do not watch movies at the actual event. Think of it like a book club. It's not a requirement to watch all the movies on the Watch List to attend. However, watching at least a few is highly encouraged as you'll have a lot more fun during the discussion.
***If you have content sensitivities, **you can look up movies on doesthedogdie.com and/or unconsentingmedia.org to review warnings.
***Keep your RSVP up-to-date. **If you can't make it out, update your RSVP at least 24 hours beforehand. If there is a waitlist, attendance will be taken and "no shows" will be marked.
At the event …
*** We’re a friendly welcoming bunch and we love new folks! **😍
*** Please purchase something (even if just a soda) while you’re at the restaurant. **They’re running a business but being super awesome by giving us a space to meet for free. Also, please tip our servers. We’re a big bunch to wrangle.30 attendees
Let's Go to Bat City Scaregrounds! 🦇👻🦇
Bat City Scaregrounds, 14101 S Turnersville Rd,, Buda, TX, USSpooky Season is upon us! Let's all go to a Haunted House! Scratch that, let's go to THREE!
On Saturday, October 24th we'll head on down to Bat City Scaregrounds in Buda, TX and scare ourselves silly. If you've never been to (or heard of) Bat City, here's a description from their website:
"Bat City Scaregrounds is a fully immersive, multi-acre entertainment complex dedicated to ALL THINGS HALLOWEEN! We are open every October and host three highly detailed haunted houses, live music, Vegas-style performances, seasonal food and so much more!"
So what are you waiting for? Get your tickets today! General Admission is currently only $38.93 (including fees), but the price may go up, so the sooner you get your tickets, the better. We are each responsible for purchasing our own tickets, and please purchase General Admission, no Fast Passes. We want to stay together as a group with no one skipping ahead. I promise we'll have time to do all three attractions.
And no refunds unless it closes for bad weather.
PREGAME (Optional):
Bat City Scaregrounds does not sell alcohol, or allow alcohol on the premises. If you want to get your drink on, or just socialize a little more before heading to the park, then meet us at Pinballz Kingdom from 5pm to 6:45pm.
Here is the address:
Pinballz Kingdom - 15201 S I-35 Frontage Rd Buda, TX 78610
Bat City Plan:
The gates open at 7:30pm, so we will be meeting near the front gate between 7pm to 7:20pm, then wait for the gates to open.
Once we've entered the park, we will take a group photo in front of the throne at the front entrance before tackling the first of the three haunted houses. We will play it by ear from there. Since we'll probably split up into smaller groups to explore, let's plan to meet back at the throne at 9pm. Gates close at 10pm, so we should have plenty of time to do everything there is to do.
DISCORD:
I will be checking in with everyone on the General Chat channel of the Austin Horror Movie Club Discord server.
In the AHMC Discord we are always having lively discussions about all things horror related. If you attend this event, or any other event hosted by the Austin Horror Movie Club, you can be granted access to our "members only" channels.
For those of you who don't do Discord, I will also keep my eye on the comments of this Meetup post.
