What we’re about
This group is for people who are passionate about photography, and know they can improve how they express themselves through the images they make. We support each other in our journeys to becoming better photographers.
There are two parts to each Meetup. Firstly on a Saturday or Sunday we meet at a location in the Front Range or Denver metro area to capture images for about two hours. Generally the locations are outdoors, walking/hiking is required, sometimes it will be an early or late start to take advantage of the golden hour. The subjects are wide ranging, e.g., architectural, birds and animals, landscapes, and street. The object is to keep challenging each other to really see the world around us.
For the second part we meet in-person to review our images; there is no scoring or judging, just opportunity to provide constructive feedback to improve our images. The focus is our creativity, not technical minutia although feedback of how to improve technically to capture better images is welcomed. During the daylight saving months, the review meetings will be held at 6:30 pm on the Tuesday or Wednesday after the photoshoot. In the winter months, it will be held on the Sunday afterwards at 3:00 pm. The reviews are held in north Golden (in a commercial office facility near the intersection of Hwy 93 and Golden Gate Canyon Rd).
The group is facilitated by me, Robert Cooke. I am an enthusiastic photographer learning to find my path to conveying the world I see in my images. I aim to host one Meetup per month.
Participants of all skill and experience levels are welcome but should be familiar with the operation of their photographic equipment and post processing tools.
There is no fee to join the group. Please only RSVP “yes” if you can join both parts of the meetup. You are welcome to contact me if you have any questions ([robertcooke@icloud.com](mailto:robertcooke@icloud.com)).

- Astro Photography, Lily Lake, Rocky Mountain National ParkLily Lake, RMNP, Estes Park, CO
This Meetup, an introduction to astrophotography, will be led by Jerry Stachowski; there are two parts.
The first part is photographing the Milky Way from Lilly Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Jerry has prepared detailed guidance notes which will be shared with participants before the Meetup. Participants will need a sturdy tripod, a camera that can shoot at ISO 6400 (or more) with minimal noise, a cable release or remote trigger, and a wide angle lens (around F2.8 or better). We will meet at Lily Lake (off Highway 7, about 7 miles south of Estes Park) on Thursday July 24 at 6:00 pm. Jerry will help us set our cameras’ focus points to infinity and we will enjoy a picnic dinner while waiting for sunset at 8:20 pm, seeing first stars from about 9:30 pm, and then photographing the Milky Way from around 10:30 pm. It will be a late night out shooting and participants are advised to spend the night in a motel in Estes Park rather than driving home.
For the second part we will meet at 5:30 pm on Thursday August 5 in north Golden (in a commercial office facility near the intersection of Hwy 93 and Golden Gate Canyon Rd). The meeting is to review our images; there is no scoring or judging, just opportunity to provide constructive feedback to improve our images. The focus is our creativity, not technical minutia although feedback of how to improve technically to capture better images is welcomed. The building address will be provided during the photo outing.
There is no fee to join the Meetup; please ignore any funding requests.
The Meetup is limited to 8 participants.
The Meetup is whether dependent, Jerry will make a call on the Sunday evening before the Meetup.
Only RSVP “yes” if you can join both parts of the Meetup. You are welcome to contact me if you have any questions (robertcooke@icloud.com).
