About us
Established in 1999, the Rockville Bicycle Advisory Committee (RBAC) is a group of volunteers of all bicycling levels. As a committee, we make recommendations to the City of Rockville Mayor and City Council and staff on bicycling issues from policies to implementation to infrastructure to improving conditions for biking in the City.
As part of these goals RBAC volunteers lead group rides to showcase the infrastructure, connectivity and other cycling features such as parking, signage and bikeshare stations. Our rides are designed to show cyclists how navigate our City streets and how Rockville earned a bronze level for being a League of American Bicyclists (LAB) Bicycle-Friendly Community. With these community bike rides, we hope you discover the bikeable routes in and round the City and join us to help promote safe cycling in Rockville.

MoCo Legacy Passport Ride
Rockville Trek Store, 5750 Fishers Lane, Suite A, Rockville, md, USJoin us for a fun cycling adventure beginning at Trek Bicycle Rockville! This approximately 18-mile ride provides a chance to complete the MoCo Legacy Passport Challenge by bicycle and to earn a reward.
The MoCo Legacy Passport is part of Montgomery County's America 250 celebration, encouraging residents to visit local historic and cultural landmarks. During this ride, we'll stop at eight Passport locations, giving participants the opportunity to check in using the Visit MoCo app. Complete eight check-ins and you'll earn a commemorative America 250 / MoCo Legacy Passport T-shirt. https://visitmontgomery.com/america-250/
Please download and set up the free Visit MoCo app on your phone before the ride so you'll be ready to check in at each Passport location. We'll allow time at every stop for everyone to complete their Passport check-ins.
This is a no-drop ride with an average pace of 10–12 mph. We'll regroup along the route, so no one will be left behind. We suggest you bring water, a snack, and a bike in good working order.
Whether you're riding for the T-shirt, the history, or simply to enjoy a great day on two wheels, this is a unique opportunity to experience Montgomery County from a different perspective.T-shirts are available while supplies last**,** so don't miss your chance to complete the challenge with us!

Scenic Ride to Lake Needwood to see the bear!
603 Edmonston Dr, Rockville, MD, USThis 9-mile ride will begin from Rockville Civic Center Park in the parking lot next to Glenview Mansion. We will take Rock Creek Trail to the sparkling Lake Needwood. There will be a few mild to moderate hills along the way.
The route: After leaving Civic Center Park, we'll follow the new and improved bike path along Baltimore Road, ending up at the intersection with the Rock Creek Trail. We'll then follow this creekside wooded path north to Lake Needwood. After taking a group photo at the lake, we'll return following the trail south, exiting at Linthicum Street. Quiet neighborhood streets will then take us back to the Civic Center.

In 2019, the Rockville Mayor and City Council adopted a complete streets policy (to provide facilities that serve all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and motorists) and in 2018 they adopted a Vision Zero resolution (to reduce traffic-related deaths to zero by 2030). RBAC members are working with the City to help with these goals and serve as liaisons to interested residents.

The committee's mandate for action includes the following tasks:•Assist in the development of the City's bicycle and pedestrian specific policies, as well as other policies that affect the conditions for bicycling in the City;
•Oversee the implementation of the City’s Bikeway Master Plan Update and report progress toward completion to the Mayor and City Council;
•Review current and proposed CIP projects to ensure bicycle needs are incorporated into design and construction when appropriate; and
•Deliver updates on the needs and desires of bicyclists in the community, with recommendations for action to the Mayor and City Council.
