Please note that the entire event will be conducted in Sinhala, the language of Sri Lanka, though all are welcome to join!

Uposatha is a Theravada Buddhist day of observance held for spiritual reflection, renewal, and for practicing the Eight Precepts. It is a time for laypeople to intensify meditation, visit temples, and make offerings, while monastics recite the Pātimokkha. A

Laypeople observe eight moral precepts instead of the usual five, abstaining from harmful actions, entertainment, cosmetics, and eating after noon.

The primary goal is for the "cleansing of the defiled mind," leading to inner calm, joy, and increased dedication to the Dharma.

It fosters deep connection with the monastic Sangha, with roots dating back to the Buddha's time.

It serves as a spiritual "reset" to reduce greed, anger, and delusion by simplifying one’s lifestyle for the day.
