Beginner ChickFest Zion: No experience is required for beginners.
We have gear for rent: $5 per item, Harness, helmet, rappel device, 3 carabiners, and safety tether. $25 for full gear setup.
Eye of the Needle Saturday and Keyhole Sunday.

Welcome to our event!!! We will focus on teaching essential canyoning knots, releasable rigging, and self-rescue skills in the canyons.
Gear needed:
Harness
Helmet
3 Carabineers
Rappel device (no ATC devices)
2 safety tethers
rappel device, no ATCs
good grip shoes, preferably climbing approach shoes or canyoneering boots designed for water
What to pack in your pack
Ultra-light waterproof jacket
Lightweight Prima Loft jacket
Under Armor long sleeve shirt
Microfleece stocking cap
Gloves, do not have to be neoprene
Emergency items in dry capsule in dry bag, see emergency list below
Snacks, meals
Water, Nalgenes or water bottles, no bladders, they don’t hold up in though canyons
Beta and/or GPS, optional for this trip

Full Wet suit 3/4 mm, for Grade II to IV rated canyons
Inner proplypro layer, shirt and or pants, wicks sweat and transfers to other layers, optional
5 mL Neoprene booties, keep feet warm and keep sand out of shoes
Neoprene skull cap
Neoprene gloves, optional
Waterproof rain jacket shell
Vinyl Backpack with drain wholes
Dry bags for food and keeping clothes dry
We will be dry camping in La Verkin.

Registering for an in-person clinic will automatically enroll you in the online course through Canyoning Institute.org.
Skills to be taught: Instructors Charleen Angell Pro Guide and Jerry Ayala ACA Aspirant and University of Utah Canyoneering Program Instructor
Knots: Know how to tie and analyze the following canyoning knots: overhand with a bight, Figure 8 on a bight, Figure 8, Figure 8 follow through, Figure 8 bend, Double Fisherman, Water Knot, Clove hitch, Munter hitch, 3 wrap prusik, Klemhiest, and Auto Block.
Construct Anchors: Competently construct and analyze natural and man-made anchor systems using D.E.A.R and E.A.R.N.E.S.T. Simple wrap, girth hitch, wrap 2 pull 1, wrap 3 pull 2, basket, and multipoint natural and bolted anchor systems.
Construct Rigging Systems: Competently construct and analyze static and releasable rigging systems: Static Blocks Toss n’ Go, Knot Block, and Carabiner Block. Releasable Blocks: Releasable Figure 8 contingency block, releasable Munter mule overhand rigging, (MMO).
Rappelling 101, Belays
Rappel on Guideline and traverse a Traverse Line
Assistant Anchor Manager: First Person at Risk, FPAR
Self-Rescue: master the skills to rescue yourself on a rappel line.
Buddy Check: Demonstrate a competent buddy check.
Passing the Knot: Ascend to a knot, pass the knot, keep ascending, transition to rappel, rappel down to the knot, and pass the knot.

If for any reason you are not happy with your order, we offer a 50% refund after 48 hours of being enrolled in the online courses. For in-person training and in-person clinics, we offer a refund up to 14 days before the training event. To initiate a return, go to your order in Eventbrite and request a refund. If you do not get a refund within 5 working days, please contact info@canyoininginstitute.org with your order details. They will unenroll you from the course you purchased.
