What we’re about
If you love to walk and meet people outside of the usual places, this group is for you. It's open to everyone of all ages. (It's not a hiking group -- we won't be climbing anything -- though hikers are welcome.) 😊
We'll visit some of the best spots, including safe trails, in Kennebec and Somerset counties. If the group grows, we can schedule visits farther away.
• Walks will average 2-4 miles.
• Lunch or dinner (including takeout, picnics, etc.) or visiting a nearby local event is an option after the walk.
• Meetings will last a few hours and take place mostly on weekends and occasional weekdays, like Fridays, at least twice a month.
It's a chance to get out more and meet new people while you enjoy a favorite pastime.
Thanks, and I look forward to meeting you and walking with you sometime.
Event cancellations/rescheduling: If there will be a major wind or rainstorm or it will be hot and humid without a breeze (80 degrees Fahrenheit or above), the event will be cancelled and rescheduled. I'll try to give at least 48 hours' notice.

See all- Vaughan Woods Trail (& Waterfalls) - Farmingdale-HallowellFarmingdale Trailhead - Vaughan Woods (behind Hall-Dale schools), Farmingdale, ME
This pleasant tree-lined trail (aka Hobbitland) features wide paths with some moderate inclines. It's more of an easy hiking trail; the steeper sections are toward the middle of the walk, as is the short "pasture" section surrounded by grass. The cascades or waterfalls are worth taking a slight detour to see, and arguably make it one of the best trails in Central Maine.
We'll walk the Corniche Trail Loop, as shown in the map here. Photos, including those of the trailhead where we'll meet, are attached.
Where We'll Meet: At the Farmingdale trailhead behind one of the Hall-Dale schools, beside the tennis courts, where there's ample parking. If you're coming in from Hallowell (off Smith Rd.), turn left at the right-most entrance and keep right until you reach the back of the middle and high schools. (Though the Hallowell trailhead lot was recently "remodeled," it might be packed, especially if the weather is good.)
Length: The loop is at least 2.5 miles; depending on our pace, it might take us 45 minutes to an hour to complete it.
If we're up for it, afterward, we can stop at a local eatery.
