Chilled Out Meetups is one of Leeds biggest groups organising social events for 18 to 38 year olds. First time here? See information for new members by clicking this link.
Our events include an organised walk every other week (over summer), coffee and drinks socials, women-only events and one off visits to destinations in Leeds and sometimes further out. We also run 'one off' events from time to time, and hope to add more types of activities in future.
Are you in charge of a venue or other potential event destination? We'd love to hear from you about working together to put on a Meetup. In return for a space, we can offer a large group of new customers and potentially repeat business in the form of one our regular events. Feel free to send us a message.
ORGANISERS WANTED - Our group is co-owned equally by its organisers. Most decisions are made by organizers giving unanimous approval. If you're interested in running events let us know, no matter what type of event you want to do - remember as an organiser you decide the time, place and activity.
We are fully committed to everyone feeling safe and secure at events so there will be zero tolerance for any harassment, unwanted attention or any other disrespectful behavior. This is a space without any kind of prejudice including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia etc. and this includes 'jokes' and 'memes', please take it elsewhere. We may organise women-only events - if this is a problem then this isn't the right group for you.
You can make a donation to the group here.
If you treat others with kindness and use some common sense you should get along fine here, but if you'd like to check our rules you can see them here.
Our financials are kept open for public viewing. You can see the ledger here.

Chilled Out Walk: 10 for 10 Charity Fundraiser
We're back for this years charity fundraiser walk for Macmillan Cancer Support. Donate £10 to walk 10 miles along the canal - the distance from Leeds to Apperley Bridge, returning by train. Though its a decent distance, the walk is almost entirely flat and on hard ground, which means with some perseverance this should be suitable for people of all fitness levels.
After you RSVP donate by tapping here.
Please note that you are donating £10 for RSVPing to this event, not for turning up or completing the walk. Think of this like a charge for attending the event, though 100% of it goes towards a good cause. I will be expecting to see donations come in shortly after you RSVP to this event!
Financial Hardship
I do not want to exclude anyone from this event if they genuinely can't afford to donate, therefore there is an exception for financial hardship. That said, I'm always interested to hear about what is going on in members' lives and often know the sort of circumstances they are currently in. What I'm saying is, if you can afford to donate but then don't I may pick on you ;) you have been warned.
So everyone can have a great experience...
- Turn up on time - we no longer wait for latecomers
- Keep the group together and don't sprint ahead
- This is chilled out so slower walkers set the pace for all
- If someone needs to stop for a moment, wait for them
- Don't lead the group unless you know the directions

FAQs
Can you meet me part way through the walk?
Sorry, because these events can be busy it isn't practical to meet certain members somewhere else. Please come to the start point, if you want to cut the route short you are welcome to leave whenever you'd like.
What if bad weather is expected?
The host will review weather forecasts and, if necessary, delay or cancel the event. If this happens the decision will be clearly posted here, so unless you're advised otherwise you can assume the event is going ahead as expected. Light or intermittent rain will not cause the walk to be delayed. If you have concerns contact the host privately, speculating in the comments will likely be considered fearmongering and dealt with accordingly.
How do I get to the start point?
If you'd like to travel by train, the start point is directly adjacent to Leeds station. It should also be within a few minutes walk of all bus connections.
Where can I park my car?
The meeting point is very central so street level parking is hard to find, however there are multiple nearby multi-storey car parks you can use and these tend to have many free spaces on a weekend. Remember to leave an extra 10 minutes since it can take a while to park at these locations.
I'm running late can you wait?
This caused more problems than it solved so we no longer wait regardless of if you request it or not. Members tend to start arriving 15-20 minutes before the start of the walk so if you arrive early you shouldn't be alone. Since we meet in the city centre there are plenty of places to get a snack or hot drink whilst you wait. Aim to arrive early then even if you are delayed you will still get there on time.
Will there be breaks?
There should be at least one with possible further breaks on longer walks, however the host is responsible for choosing when. When we do stop, make the most of it - take a seat and drink some water - if you stand around the whole time you might struggle for energy later.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, as long as they are on a lead and wont intimidate other members. Generally members choose where to go after the walk, so we can't guarantee the pub/bar etc. will be dog friendly.
Will there be more upcoming walks?
We normally do these every 2 weeks from approximately March - September, however this is subject to change at any time, as always RSVP now since there's no guarantee the event will be repeated. The more people who turn up now the more likely we are to keep running these later into the year.

Chilled Film Club: The Odyssey 35MM
Hyde Park Picture House, 73 Brudenell Road, Leeds, LS6 1JD, GBGrab your sandals - we're going to see The Odyssey, a tale old as civilisation itself. The latest Christopher Nolan movie depicts the eventful journey of Odysseus returning home from the Trojan War.
Our venue is the much beloved Leeds institution Hyde Park Picture House. This boutique theatre offers a film viewing experience you can't get anywhere else in the city. Transport links are excellent with easy access by car or public transport (scroll down for details).
🎟️ You can book your ticket here. James has bought a ticket in the stalls F5 (if you'd like to be seated with the rest of the attendees). Early booking is highly recommended - seats may sell out! Various discounted tickets are available, check the HPPH website for more details.
⚠️ Important: The posted time is 30 minutes before the start of the film to give everyone a chance to meet each other and grab some drinks/snacks. We would strongly recommend not arriving at the last minute since if you're late you may not be allowed in.
📽 About Hyde Park Picture House
This legendary indie cinema has been open over 100 years and is now a Grade II listed building. Old building doesn't mean old tech though - in 2023, HPPH underwent a major renovation thanks to a grant from The National Lottery. Now the venue boasts the latest equipment and can even screen 35MM film reels (many cinemas are entirely digital now). The latest blockbusters are shown here, as well as indie screenings, live events and workshops.
By supporting Hyde Park Picture House, you support the charity Leeds Heritage Theatres which runs several venues around the city keeping bricks-and-mortar entertainment alive. Don't give your money to another multinational multiplex brand - go local!
You can find out more about the venue including its History, plus essential information about your visit, on their website here.
How to get here
Bus: The venue is close to many bus services which run very frequently. Google Maps should be able to provide exact bus times and stop locations.
Train: The nearest train station is Burley Park which is a 5-10 minute walk away. If coming from Leeds rail station, the journey only takes a handful of minutes.
Car: The venue is in a residential area with plentiful free street parking nearby. Double check, since some streets might be permit only.
Walking: The venue is a 20-30 minute walk from the city centre and also walkable from Headingley, Hyde Park, Burley and Kirkstall. The local area is generally safe, however its best to keep to busy, well lit streets after night.
Afterwards
There's no specific plan after the film, however if anyone would like to go for a drink and discuss the film, there are many pubs and bars nearby.
