What will I be learning?

• Rock work tools
• Lifting
• Trundeling

Why: Trail F is ~3 miles of machine and hand build trail with tons of natural rock features. There are plenty of opportunities to make very cool, challenging rock tech sections and sections that need rock armoring to make the trail more sustainable.

When: Be ready to go by 8am. After a safety and tool talk we will walk to our worksite which is right near the parking area. We will end at 1145 with time to debrief and grab a cold drink.

How to get there:
Go up Three Creek Road Turn left on NF 1608
Stay on 1608 for 1.75 miles then turn left on NF 1608-800 (From this point on the road has a few rocks and some very sandy sections. If you don't want to drive your car all the way down, please text me and I can organize a pick up)
Drive down this road for .85 miles until you see a large open area to left.
Park off the road in the clearing.
Please drive in from Sisters. The backroads are can be pretty rough.

What To Bring:
*Warm clothes (layers)
Sunscreen/chapstick
*Water
Snacks
*Sturdy, close toed shoes
Backpack to carry your things
*Long pants
Knee pads can be super helpful.
Work gloves
*Eye protection (glasses, sunglasses - we will have some as well)
All tools and hard helmets will be provided.

I will be checking the AQI daily and make a decision the evening before.

Join us for tagging a new trail from Dutchman to Swampy!

This is a special opportunity to take part in the first steps of building a new trail! No experience needed! We will learn how to identify white bark pine (a protected species), and then help to mark it along the trail corridor so that it can be saved when creating the new tread.

We will provide the training, the tools, PPE, and after work beverages. Long pants and closed toed shoes are required. Long sleeves are recommended due to heavy brush. Please bring water and any food you might need. Also, don’t forget to bring appropriate layers.

How to find us (2 options:)
Option 1: Meet at the Dutchman Flat Sno-Park (same as Tumalo Mt. trailhead) in time for a prompt 5:30 start

Option 2: If you choose this option, you must let us know in the comments! Meet at the Welcome Center on Century Drive no later than 4:50. We can carpool up to the work site.

When: We plan to hit the trail at 5:30. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, so we can have an on-time start.

Be prepared to work and to have FUN! Talking about the trails and the techniques used to build them is fun, so ask questions if you have them. Even more fun is riding later on a trail that you helped to build! This trail will be a wonderful single track connector from the high country trails down to all the trails at Swampy Sno-Park.

Women of COTA is centered on bringing women together in a supportive environment to learn about COTA and the trail building/maintenance process. You do not need to be a COTA member and everyone is welcome.

Plan on working snow, rain or shine. If there is inclement weather, smoke from wildfires, or anything COTA deems dangerous, we will update this Meetup page and also send an email to everyone through Meetup. If you do not hear from us, the event is on.

Come join us for an evening of fun, building new trail at Barnes Butte in Prineville!

All abilities and levels experience are welcome to join!

Details:
We will be constructing brand new trail by hand on the North side of Barnes Butte. There will be work for people of all skills level and abilities.

Where:
We will be meeting at the Barnes Butte trailhead. There is a new road so pass Barnes Butte Elementary and continue on NE Combs Flat road and then take your first right onto the gravel road into the trailhead parking lot.

When:
We will be meeting at the trailhead at 5p. If you can, please arrive 5 to 10 minutes early so we can start right at 5p. We will sign waivers and do our tailgate safety talk. After that we will bike/drive up Baby Burma road (City/BLM approved). At the top we will do a demonstration on new trail building and then begin work. Wrapping up at 7:45p to return to the trailhead by 8p.

What to expect:
Plan on moving a lot of dirt and having FUN! Be prepared for warm weather. Cold refreshments will be provided at the end.
