Think & Discuss – Prediction Markets
Fortnight Brewery, 1006 SW Maynard Road, Cary, nc, USDuring this meetup we're having an open discussion format (even more so than usual), with a suggestion of Prediction Markets to spur discussion if needed.
Here is a link on the loose topic if interested:
- The Plain Bagel: Prediction Markets Are Ruining the Finance Industry (Note: the video does more to present both sides than the title indicates)

Some more general notes about the book club:
- We rotate through different types of books, with some covering historical or current events and others more along the lines of practical advice about how to do something.
- No specific ideas are necessarily endorsed – we try to read a variety of topics to expose ourselves to new ideas and ways of thinking.
- We try to grab the room to the back-right of Fortnight Brewing Company's main inside seating area (coming in the door on the front of the building, facing Maynard Road), but will get a table nearby if the room isn't available.
- No worries about coming in mid-discussion ― we usually manage to get off-topic anyways ― and feel free to come even if you didn't manage to finish the book. Also, no shame if you listen to it on Audible!

Listen & Discuss – Vanguard by Acquired
Fortnight Brewery, 1006 SW Maynard Road, Cary, nc, USDuring this meetup we're taking a break from our usual reading focus and will discuss the Acquired podcast episode on Vanguard (about a 4-hour listen on 1x speed).
https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/vanguard
"Vanguard is the most effective vehicle ever created for participating in the fruits of American capitalism. Today it’s the single largest equity owner of the majority of corporations in the S&P 500, on behalf of 50 million clients (including, likely, many of you). And yet Vanguard itself is essentially a communist organization — it has no shareholders, makes no profits, and operates more like REI than Fidelity. If you own a Vanguard fund, you own a piece of the firm itself. Any excess margin instead gets returned to clients in the form of lower fees, which since 1975 have added up to roughly five hundred billion dollars transferred out of Wall Street managers’ pockets and into retail investors’ savings accounts. And oh yeah, it all started as a cockamamie revenge plot by a guy who’d just been fired by his partners. Today we tell the story of communist capitalism at its finest — Vanguard."

Read & Discuss – The Wealth Ladder by Nick Maggiulli
Fortnight Brewery, 1006 SW Maynard Road, Cary, nc, USDuring this meetup, we will discuss The Wealth Ladder: Proven Strategies for Every Step of Your Financial Life by Nick Maggiulli.
"Do you feel stuck financially? Are you working more, trying to spend less, yet still not seeing results? If so, the issue isn’t your effort—it’s your approach.
This is where The Wealth Ladder comes in. It’s not a get-rich-quick scheme or a one-size-fits-all solution to your money problems. It’s a new philosophy for thinking about money altogether.
In a world where interest rates shift, careers take new turns, and desires evolve, our financial strategy must keep up. This is why The Wealth Ladder breaks wealth into six distinct levels, each demanding its own strategy. What works at Level 1 won’t cut it at Level 6—and vice versa. You’ll learn exactly how to handle your spending, income, investments, and more, with tailored advice for every stage. The result? Smarter choices, less stress, and a clear path upward.
Because building wealth isn’t just about hard work—it’s about applying the right strategy at the right time to focus on what matters most.
Fortunately, you won’t need to guess on where to focus next because The Wealth Ladder has the answer. The only question left is: Are you ready to climb it?"
