About us
This group is for anyone interested in food culture, home cooking, nutrition, and healthy living through a practical, curiosity-driven approach.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, want to become more comfortable in the kitchen, or are an experienced home cook looking to deepen your understanding of flavor, you’re welcome.
We’ll begin by building a foundation in herbs and spices—exploring how they contribute aroma, flavor, balance, and depth to everyday cooking. Rather than relying on complicated recipes, we’ll focus on quality ingredients, simple preparation, and the principles behind great flavor.
A recurring reference for our discussions will be The Flavor Bible by Andrew Dornenburg and Karen Page, which we’ll use as one resource for exploring ingredient pairings, seasonality, and flavor combinations: https://a.co/d/02ZbAeq3
Activities may include:
- Grocery-store visits to explore ingredients and learn how to select them
- Discussions about food culture, cooking techniques, and nutrition
- Herb and spice tastings
- Occasional demonstrations featuring simple, healthy dishes
- Sharing favorite ingredients, recipes, resources, and practical cooking tips
The goal is not simply to follow recipes, but to understand how ingredients work together so you can cook with greater confidence, creativity, and enjoyment.

Attendance and community expectations - Removal after One no-show
Our meetups are intentionally small, so every RSVP matters.
A reminder will be sent before each event asking attendees to confirm their plans or update their RSVP. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your reservation so someone else may take your place. Members who do not update their RSVP and miss an event without contacting the organizer will be removed from the group after one no-show. Emergencies happen—communication is all we ask.
As a longtime Meetup member, I’ve learned that RSVPs do not always reflect genuine attendance. Some events may therefore include a nominal fee, particularly when they require significant preparation, materials, tastings, or samples.
Food Talk values substance and quality over superficial popularity. I expect this community to grow slowly, with members who are curious, accountable, and respectful of one another’s time. We hope to strengthen those values in the wider community by practicing them ourselves and leading by example.
