🌳🌳 Forest of Wisdom 🛕🛕 Presents a new 8-week series of explorations into the links of modern science and Buddhist philosophy. The hour-long sessions will be followed by discussion with the instructor and your fellow classmates over tea and refreshments (bring your own if joining by Zoom 😉).
🌍 This course is intended to give people a chance to openly engage with the lingering questions that hang in the space between science and Buddhism. It is well suited for those who share a science-oriented worldview and an appreciation for the depth and practicality of Buddhist logic and philosophy.
🌻How can we resolve the mind-body problem and the hard problem of consciousness? Is there genuinely anything quantum about consciousness and what role does consciousness play in shaping reality? Why is math so fundamental to science, yet so unimportant to Buddhist thinkers? Can the subtle and invisible aspects of Buddhist philosophy - like rebirth, karma and the possibility of enlightenment - be proven, or even entertained by a scientific epistemology? If not, does that invalidate them? How important is science to Buddhism, and vice versa?
🌳If you ever had questions like these, you'll enjoy this class. Led by Ven. Losang Donyo, a monastic in the 10th year of the Geshe study program at Sera Jey Monastic University, India. Ven. Donyo claims no expertise in any scientific discipline, yet any claims made about science during the course will be grounded in scientific consensus (where it exists) shown through primary and secondary source material. Each class will also include guided meditation.
🛞Join in person or on Zoom on Sundays @ 10:00 am EST / 7:30 pm IST. https://zoom.us/j/93015845340?pwd=G0bEb588oDJg90o49bweA4Ne8ceDcI.1
