What we’re about
The purpose of this group is to organize fun outdoor adventures, (backpacking, car camping, hiking, paddling, bicycling, etc.).
I set up the group and will pay for the adminstration fees myself, so people can join and see the trips posted and decide if they want to participate, without having to pay up front. If you would like to contribute toward the annual cost of $197.88, please let me know.
Trips work like this: a leader sets up a loose structure, and attendees help build out more details. Key is the idea of allowing attendees flexibility to do what they want to do - but there is a rule: if you think of something fun to do, please ask "who else wants to go?"
Key guidelines:
Keep yourself and others safe, (buddy system)
Follow Leave No Trace principles, (take only a picture, leave only a footprint)
Be inclusive
By joining this group, you agree to release trip organizers, other attendees, and the group administrator from all liability.
Happy Trails!!

Cumberland Falls, KY Moonbow (Rainbow at Night) Viewing Weekend hiking trip
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park, 7351 KY-90, Corbin, KY, USCumberland Falls is one of the few places in the world that regularly produces a moonbow. The “moonbow,” also called a white rainbow or lunar rainbow, is formed just like a rainbow—light is refracted in tiny water droplets—and appears for the two or so days, as long as the sky is clear, on either end of the full moon.
Friday best viewing time is 8pm to 10 pm and Saturday 9pm to 11 pm.
Hiking some of the best Natural Arches and waterfalls in Kentucky during the day. List below.
This year I will be staying at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park. They have multiple cabins available that have 2 bedrooms with 2 queen beds and sleep 4-10 people depending on how you want to set it up. Price for the cabin I booked that has 4 beds and a sleeper sofa. 4 people will run about 60 per night per person. Places go fast. Cumberland Falls Resort
It appears the Lodge and restaurant at the facility will be closed for renovations while we are there and tent camping will be closed for the winter. In the past we stayed at this Sheltowee Trace Adventure Resort. They have different types of accommodations ranging from primitive tent, tent with electric, covered wagons and cabins with heat and AC, showers etc. A couple cabins have the bathroom inside and the cozy cabins have a Shower house and heated bathrooms and they are nice. They also have RV and tent campsites at this locaiton. Besides the lodge they are the nearest to Cumberland Falls, about 5 minutes away. Sheltowee trace lodging
You will be responsible for finding your own lodging. Most cabins can have 4-12 people in them and are very reasonable cost. anywhere from 41-70 dollars per night per person. I will help with anyway I can to guide you to finding a good location to stay.
This is an unbelievably beautiful area full or natural wonders.
Do as much or as little as you want. I know not everyone will want to do all the hikes. This is the rough plan that will be followed. Plenty of time for photos and exploring but will try to stay on schedule.
Friday night.
If you arrive early enough, go to Cumberland Falls to try to get a Moonbow sighting. 8 to 10 pm best times. The falls are only a couple minutes away from campground. If you arrive early you might want to go to falls in daylight. Really pretty area with a big parking lot and trails you can explore.

NYE Hiker Style!
Mohican State Park Campground, 3116 OH-3, Loudonville, oh, USLet's start the new year off with a good, long hike!
We will ring in the new year at "hiker's midnight" -- 9pm lol. Come hang around the firepit at cabin #2, (the one I reserved).
On New Year's Day, we will head out on a 10 mile hike about 9am. (You can turn back any time). At the time of this posting, there are 14 preferred cabins available: two bedrooms, (1 with a queen bed, 1 with a double bed and a set of bunk beds), heat, a fireplace, one full bathroom, and a full kitchen. Cabin cost is $220/night. If the cabin is cancelled with 14 days of arrival, you forfeit the first night's payment. Reserve now so we can see how much interest there is - if we don't get a good group together by November 30, the event will be cancelled.
If you want to camp, either in a camper or in your car, you do need to reserve a campsite - you can't just park at a cabin, sorry to say. The campsites and cabins are not far from each other, but choose a site in the 141-148 or 58-64 range so you will be closer to the cabins. There are a lot of electric sites available.
Ohio State Parks - Ohio State Parks Reservation System
I have reserved cabin #2, and want the room with the queen bed. I am happy to share the cabin, splitting the cost by bedrroom. ($227 including tax for the room with a double bed and a set of twin bunk beds).
We will figure out more details after we see who wants to go.
Happy New Year!5 attendees
