About us

East Bay Gen Z Hiking Club is for young folks around the Bay who want a solid reason to get outside and meet people without it being awkward. I started this group because it’s weirdly hard to make new friends these days unless you already have a built-in social circle. Hiking makes it easy: you’re moving, talking, and doing something fun at the same time.

Why join?

  • You want to meet new people and make real friends
  • You’ve been meaning to hike more but don’t want to go alone
  • You want weekend plans that aren’t just playing video games or doom scrolling

What we do
Most events are weekend day hikes (about 6–8 miles) on East Bay trails.
We keep it friendly and beginner-to-intermediate, and we’ll share the details ahead of time (distance, elevation, meeting spot, and what to bring).

We're also going to experiment with some other events like picnics or barbeques to vary the types of activities for the club.

Come prepared
Bring plenty of water, wear proper shoes, and pack whatever you need for the weather.
Everyone is welcome here.

This is an inclusive group across backgrounds, genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, and identities. Respect is the baseline.

Our next hike takes us to Tilden Regional Park for the Seaview, Big Springs, and Vollmer Peak Trail Loop. This loop offers great panoramic views of the Bay Area and the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a moderate 4.6-miles with 954ft of elevation gain, so it's a solid workout. Headgear and sunscreen are must haves for our summer hikes. Dogs on leash are welcome.
Note: We will be starting the loop to the left, for a more enjoyable hike (according to reviews).

Parking: Parking is free at the Vollmer Peak Staging lot, but it shares space with the park's steam trains and apparently can get chaotic and packed on weekends. Please give yourself extra time to find a spot.

Where to meet: We will meet by the restrooms at the Vollmer Peak Staging parking lot. See Meetup location pin.

Please arrive 5 minutes before 9:30 AM on Saturday, July 11th. We will start the hike shortly after 9:30 AM. If you are going to be late, please message early because we may not have service at the trail. I'd recommend downloading an offline map of the area on Google Maps or the trail on AllTrails to your phone just in case you happen to get separated.

Please Bring:

  • water bottle
  • snacks
  • sunscreen & hat
  • sturdy hiking shoes (poles recommended)
  • good vibes

Post-Hike Lunch: For those interested, we will be grabbing an optional lunch afterward! The location is TBD, and we might decide together as a group once we finish the hike.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
