About us
We are Jakarta Writers.
Join the community! It doesn't matter if you just pick up pen and paper or if you are writing since years; it doesn't matter what and how often you write.
This group is perfect for all those interested in storytelling, and in exploring and developing their craft.
We are the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta... and we invite you to join us! Everyone is welcome.
Jakarta Writers (former Jakarta Creatives) is the community to explore, practice, or enjoy all forms of writing and creativity in Jakarta. Other than regular writing events and workshops we do book clubs, book swaps, comedy events as well as occasionally attend museums and poetry open mics, watch movies, and much more!
Together with the group Jakarta Friends (which mostly focus on social activities) we are all about authentic connections in an uncomplicated and informal setting.
- You can see past events here: https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-writers/events/?type=past
- Browse all future events here: https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-writers/events/
Together, we are creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. This community is a convergence of people and cultures.
Over the past 3,5 years, with Jakarta Writers & Jakarta Friends we have had over 250 events with about 2,000 attendees! Everyone should always feel welcome to join disregarding from their ethnicity, nationality, religion, creed, age, language skills, gender identification, sexual orientation, background, ability, income, social status, or any other arbitrary trait.
We have a yearly membership fee to join our events. This is explained in detail in every event description. The membership fee is not expensive and gives access to all events, while guaranteeing that hosting events remains sustainable for the organisers. There's much more value to members in a yearly fee than in an event fee.
We guarantee to keep organising plenty of events and the fee is refundable if the group closes down or if there are no events for more than three months. You can attend the first event for a sneak peek price!
You can also connect via chat and social media:
- Join the WhatsApp community for announcements: https://chat.whatsapp.com/BR0sC0BrPbc9xTqvj1qLfx
- People who have attended one event in person can request to join the Community Chat on WhatsApp. This is a safe space free of spam, harassement, and unwelcome online behaviours!
- Follow us on Instagram! https://www.instagram.com/jakarta.friends.creatives/
You are invited to **join the group Jakarta Friends, too 👉🏼 https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-friends/** With Jakarta Friends we eat and drink together, play board games, talk business, socialize, do language exchanges, explore the city by walking and culinary tours, and much more!
We look forward to meet you at a next event!
Corrado & the team of co-organisers
An important note about this community: This group welcomes everyone who genuinely wants to connect. The organisers won't tolerate any of the following behaviours:
- marketing promotions without checking with the admin first (including aggressive marketing strategies, pet trading, self-centered offers, non-relevant posts)
- negativity and blaming (including spreading false information, criticizing without offering a honest feedback or alternative solutions)
- harrassement, discrimination, intolerance, disrespectful behaviour
- it's important that people respect RSVP at event, and are respectful of everyone's time and efforts in organising events
- anyone who feels unsafe or unwelcome at an event is encouraged to report this to the organisers or to the Meetup help center

ABOUT THE BOOK
First published in 1890, The Picture of Dorian Gray is Oscar Wilde's only novel and one of the best-known works of Gothic literature. It follows Dorian Gray, a beautiful young man whose portrait is painted by the artist Basil Hallward. After being influenced by the charismatic Lord Henry Wotton, Dorian becomes obsessed with youth, beauty, and pleasure.
The novel explores beauty, youth, morality, influence, identity, art, desire, and the relationship between appearance and reality. It also raises an interesting question: What happens when we are free from the consequences of our choices?
🚨 Trigger Warning: This book contains themes of violence, death, suicide, drug use, and sexual themes.

Baru, Kota Jakarta Selatan, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 12130, Indonesia, Kecamatan Kebayoran Baru, ID➡️ TL;DR: This is a dream event for writers... a session of silent writing surrounded by fellow writers! | New & experienced writers are most welcome | We will connect and talk about writing at the end | We have a membership fee for attendees, but you can join at a sneak peek price | Full description below!

Hello, Jakarta Writer! Are you a member of Jakarta Friends yet?
Want to see pictures of past events? Take a look here! And feel free to upload a few pictures you might take at the event 😊JakWri and JakFri is the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this SHUT! UP! AND! WRITE! #64! ✍️
Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle. Come as you are... It’s the best version of yourself.
ABOUT THE EVENT
So, you want to write? Then shut up and write! Writing is 0.01% "inspiration" and 99.99% getting down to it.
We will meet for a circa 2-hour writing session at TERU in the heart of Kebayoran Baru.
It doesn't matter if you are an established writer or if you are picking up pen and paper for the first time. Just show up, get down to it, and start writing. Everyone will be working on their own thing, and we won't talk during writing. If you need a prompt or suggestion on what to write, I'll be happy to give you some ideas.
After the circa 2-hour writing session, we will switch off our laptops and close our notebooks (but if you want to keep going, feel free!) and chill out. We can also share each other's texts and give feedback, if that's something someone would like to do.
The rules of the game:
- We aim to start together in order not to disrupt the process for everyone. Please be on time.
- No talking at the table during writing! After arriving at the table, we will focus on our own writing
- You can take as many breaks as you want, of course
Don't be late, as we want to start writing together, and please do update your RSVP at least 24h before the event if you cannot come; you will take away a spot from a person on the waitlist. Don't be that person! Repeated no-shows will be kicked from the group.
