What we’re about
Kern Canine Activities (KCA) is a Social dog club open to purebreds and mixed breeds. We have monthly meetings, member barbecues, weekly classes and yearly trials, all to have fun with our dogs and get to know one another. Our events are posted on the meetup calendar.
We have experienced trainers who are all dedicated to providing excellent instruction from beginner to expert levels. We offer classes and practice in Agility, Dock Diving, Obedience, Rally, Flyball, Trick Dog, Barn Hunt and NASDA as well as evaluations for AKC STAR puppy, CGC, CGCA, and CGCU. Check out our calendar to see what classes are currently being offered.
The intent of this Meetup is to provide information about classes and activities as well as create an enjoyable and open environment where members feel free to share their accomplishments about their canine family.
Please be respectful to all members.

See all- Scent Work - ADVANCED #2. **** CLASS IS FULL ****Needs location
Pre-req is Beginning & Advance Beginning Novice Scent Work class where introduction to odor, handling odor and basics are covered. If your dog is already on Anise odor but you have not taken the previous class contact me and we can discuss.
Scent Work is a great team sport that puts your dog's nose to the test. “Fascinating fact: Dogs have a sense of smell that’s between 10,000 and 100,000 times more acute than ours! The sport of Scent Work celebrates the joy of sniffing, and asks a dog to sniff to their heart’s content, turning your dog’s favorite activity into a rewarding game. It is a terrific sport for all kinds of dogs and is a wonderful way to build confidence in a shy dog (AKC).” The game is fun and can be fast. This class is geared towards AKC, but is applicable to NACSW. Our focus will be on Advance odor of Anise along with beginning odor of Birch. The elements in AKC are: container, buried (which is water), interior, exterior searches. Dealing with some issues such as box crushing, distractions and weather challenges. Unlike the two Novice classes, you will not know the hides all the time. Our last class will be handlers choice, so you can work on what you feel you need for your team; any of the elements, odor management, on the road (OTR) issues, reward timing. Totally up to you. Be prepared for field trips, will be close by within 1-3 miles.
Your marker words should be set by this class and your dog knows and understands it. We will work more on timing that marker with reward. We will look at the odor puzzles and see how your dog is working that outside of the coned area and adding distractions. Please bring an appropriate crate to contain your dog if you are out of sight. For field trips you will be working out of your car. At this level you should be considering an odor kit and we can discuss and maybe some of you want to share?
What to bring;
*Crate this is not optional, if you have an issue contact me
* Hungry dog
* Treats - soft small. No crunchy/crumbly. Be sure you bring a variety of valued treats for your dog that your dog likes. My treats range from dehydrated hotdogs (gets rid of the slim, dehydrated duck jerky, string cheese, chicken steak).

* Class fee is $80. And runs 5 weeks. If you are not a KCA member you will need to join the 2025 year. You must join prior to class**** This is a roaming class, every week we may move locations. Around the NW****
If you are in class 1 you are in the entire series. There will likely be no adds after class starts (there are always some circumstance that may allow, message me)
Please no young children/toddlers/infants
One handler/One dog Teams. If you are going to enter 2 dogs let’s talk about it before and how we can help manage 2 dogs with 1 handler, 2 dogs is not unusual.
