Introduction to bikepacking 101 (37 R)
Lititz parking, Juniper Lane,, Lititz, PA, USRide Leader: Bruce Black
An introduction to bikepacking. This is a 37-mile route with an overnight camping experience at Starlight campground in Clay, PA. We will start in Lititz with a gear check and loading onto bicycles. From Lititz, we will make our way to Foxmill Creamery (about 10 miles into the ride) in Clay for an afternoon snack. From there, we will head into the gamelands for some gravel riding as we make our way to the campsite at roughly the 20-mile mark. YOU WILL WANT TO RIDE A BIKE THAT IS CAPABLE OF RIDING ON GRAVEL. After a restful night of sleeping under the stars, we will pack up and head back to Lititz, stopping at a coffee shop along the way. Plan on cooking a meal for dinner and for breakfast. This will test out your campsite cooking setup and food choices. Please check out the Bikepacking 101 gear list for some ideas on what to bring and how to set up your bike. Another good reference is the following YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH4NOPWZxGU
ALL RIDERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN GEAR AND FOOD. YOU ARE GOING TO WANT A GRAVEL BIKE FOR THIS RIDE.
The idea of this trip is to test out the gear setup on the bike and camping in preparation for riding the Great Allegheny Passage and C&O Canal paths from Pittsburgh to Washington, DC.
If you have any questions please message me.
This ride is a social ride, but cyclists are not expected to stay in one group. Cyclists may pedal at their own comfortable paces. Please be supportive of the other cyclists to avoid anyone biking alone or being dropped off the back of the last group.
