# Welcome to Lisbon Hiking and Meditation
Connecting with Nature, Mindful Presence, Community, and Culture — Locally and Globally
### Our Story and Vision
Lisbon Hiking and Meditation began with a simple idea: bringing people together to experience nature not just as a backdrop, but as a space for genuine connection, presence, and cultural exchange.
The group was founded by Aman, who brought to Lisbon more than a decade of experience as a mountain guide in his home country of Nepal, leading treks through the Himalayas and Mount Everest. For Aman, hiking has always been about much more than reaching a summit. Through his work with Nomads (https://thenomadexperience.com)—an organization dedicated to conscious trekking in Nepal and across Asia—Aman is passionate about introducing travelers to local cultures, traditional ways of life, social projects, and local communities.
When Aman moved to Lisbon, he established this group to share that spirit of discovery, building a local bridge for anyone curious about immersive, culturally rooted trekking experiences in Asia while enjoying the trails around Lisbon.
### Growing the Trail Together
As Aman’s family and professional commitments expanded, the group needed a fresh pair of feet on the ground to keep the trail alive. Enter Massimo (Max), an Italian facilitator who joined the group after 20 years in the UK, bringing deep experience from years spent in intentional communities and Buddhist monasteries.
With Massimo stepping in to facilitate and lead our weekly walks, the group has entered a vibrant new chapter. Massimo brings a deep passion for community-building and a meditative approach to nature, helping us slow down, cultivate presence, and connect meaningfully with one another and the landscapes around Lisbon.
### What We Stand For
Together, our group bridges the local and the global, the inner and the outer journey:
- Inner Connection: Led by Massimo, our Lisbon walks offer space for mindfulness, quiet reflection, and conscious gathering in nature.
- Community Spirit: A welcoming, inclusive space to meet like-minded people, build lasting friendships, and recharge outside the city.
- Global Horizons: Rooted in Aman’s ongoing vision and his work with Nomads, our group remains a doorway to authentic cultural trekking experiences in Nepal and across Asia for those inspired to explore further.
Whether you are looking for a mindful walk in the hills around Lisbon, a friendly community of nature lovers, or inspiration for your next big journey abroad, you’ll find a home here.

Under One Sun: An Eclipse Gathering at MAAT
Museu Maat, Av. Brasília, Lisbon, PTJoin us on the rooftop of MAAT as we pause, turn toward the sky, and share an ancient human experience.
Note: After the eclipse, we will walk in the golden light of the sunset along the Tejo river, until the Torre de Belem and possibly The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown.
Note: If you arrive late because of work, you can still join us... We will receive you when you arrive :-)
PLEASE JOIN THIS WHATSAPP GROUP (right now so you don't forget :-)) to keep in touch during the day: https://chat.whatsapp.com/KvDVCBM6sDLBxSpktHxfop. We are so many that we will not be able to wait for people arriving late etc. In this group the exact location of the group will be posted along the whole night.
For millions of years, human beings have gathered in quiet awe to witness the rare moment when the moon passes before the sun. In our fast-paced modern world, it is easy to forget that everything we are—and everything we build—is sustained by the warmth and energy of the sun.
An eclipse is a profound pause button. It is a striking reminder of our shared, humble place within the vast cosmic order, and of how much we need one another.
We are coming together on the banks of the Tagus not just to look up, but to attune both inward and outward to the profound reverberation that the disappearance of the light in full day creates within us and around us.
What to Expect:
- Attunement & Presence: Beyond watching the solar disk itself, we will hold space to notice the subtle shift in light, the change in temperature, the quiet in the air (relative to being in the middle of a capital city!), and the internal emotional reverberations of the moment.
- Community & Connection: A warm, open atmosphere to sit side-by-side, sharing a collective silence and a collective presence as the shadow moves across us.
- Reflective Pause and Walk along the River: A brief moment after the peak to acknowledge our shared humanity, ground ourselves, and appreciate the living star that powers our world. We will walk in the sunset light along the river until Torre de Belem and back.
Bring a cushion or blanket to sit on, comfortable clothing, and an open heart.
> ⚠️ CRUCIAL EYE SAFETY WARNING ⚠️
>
> Please read carefully before attending: Direct viewing of any solar eclipse—even during partial phases—can cause permanent eye damage or blindness.
>
> * Standard sunglasses, camera lenses, or dark film will NOT protect your eyes.
> * You must use certified solar viewing glasses (ISO 12312-2 compliant) or indirect viewing methods (such as a pinhole projector) to look directly toward the sun.
> * Free glasses are offered here: https://clubdavisao.pt/campanha/eclipse2026. I could not find any though, Ana and I bought on Amazon.es.
> * Don't get too obsessed with watching the disk! The real experience is better lived with wide awareness, rather than focusing on an isolated image in the sky behind a black piece of plastic. We encourage participants to focus equally on the ambient environmental shifts around us—the changing light, shadows, and temperature—which can be fully experienced without looking at the sun directly. (however get a pair of glasses so you have both options :-) )
> *DISCLAIMER: These walks are informal gatherings. Event organisers cannot assume responsibility for anyone attending and will not be held responsible for any accident, injury or loss occurring as a result of the walk. You need to be 18+ or come with an adult carer who takes responsibility for you.
