Lisbon Comedy: Standup Comedy in English

Welcome to Republic of Comedy, Lisbon’s international standup comedy club based in the legendary Lisbon-center bar Xafarix, and our Monday evening open mic!

Our open mic is a wonderfully relaxed show ranging from experienced comics trying new material, other established comedians trying to polish their best, to newcomers trying standup for the first time. And as a special ingredient, some of us will improvise new jokes based on topics you suggested anonimously! It’s like magic, but funny (when it goes well)!

But who is the MC? Well, friend, it’s hosted by the Republic’s own Francesco Kirchhoff, seasoned and happy/grim/partially flamboyant veteran of standup and part-time mixologist, leading through the night with whatever charm he has left on a Monday evening (he’s been called smart and risky by the leading UK comedy reviewer, but he’s ok).

The lineup, you ask, with your question-asking face? It’s a secret! Or is it a mystery? Either way, no preannounced lineup — though we always take care to have a good mix between seasoned pros and newcomers to make sure we all have fun.

But what about the entry cost?! Oh, you. Just bring your vibes, whichever you have at hand (good ones preferred). This show is donation-based, aka pay what you think is fair at the end. Because artists should be paid for their work, but everybody should have access to art.

Is this good marketing copy, you wonder? Probably not, but dear god, we are comedians and we are a bit sick of trying to be social media marketers (with some offense to social media marketers. except you, if you’re one. You are different, I think we both could tell you’re special.).

Lisbon Comedy has been producing high quality comedy shows at Selva Comedy Cafe for 3+ years and this time we are stepping it up several notches. This is the longest running English comedy show in the city!

The funniest comedians in Lisbon come together for an unforgettable night of laughter and hilarity! Join us at this English Comedy Showcase!

Our handpicked lineup will feature some of the hottest local and international comedians and rising talents, all in one smashing evening.

Selva Comedy Cafe will welcome us to a cozy cafe with warm friendly vibes and we'll laugh the night away. Our comedians will have you in SPLITS!

Comedy is the best ice breaker, especially if you're new in town. So join us for a great evening of fun and maybe you'll even make some new friends for life.

This is a donation based show, free entry as we like to keep good times accessible for everyone. All donations go towards supporting the comics. We'll ask you for a donation at the end of the show so you can support the acts from the night. Usually we suggest a donation of 10 Euro per person if you enjoyed the night but you may donate as you please. Cash and cards accepted.

Join us at 8.30pm for some socializing and drinks. After we are sufficiently inebriated, we'll start doing some stand-up comedy in English.

The venue will serve craft beer, wines, cocktails, and some light food/snacks.

RSVP right now to reserve your spot because our shows get super full. Arrive early to reserve your seat for comedy! We've got a comfortable couch in the center of the room but it's gets occupied fast!

Doors open at 8.30PM. Come enjoy some drinks! The show starts soon after so please be comfortably seated by then, drinks in hand. We hold your seat/reservation until 8.45PM and thereafter it's first come first served.

PS: This event is for attendees ages 15 and over. A lot of the jokes and content are adult themed. Since this is a performance art event, please don't bring your babies or dogs to it unless they can stay quiet while the performances are taking place.

We don't wait for some arbitrary calendar date to celebrate. Every day is a good day to celebrate — and The Fabulous is our way of doing exactly that. This show puts women and queer comedians centre stage for a night of standup that's warm, loud, and very, very funny.

The lineup is always different. Some are Lisbon regulars, some are visiting from abroad, some are doing their first five minutes ever. What they all have in common: they're here, they're hilarious, and they're not holding back.

Who's invited? Lesbians, gays, bi, trans, straights, Russians, Italians, Russian-italians… even cis straight men. Once in the door, you are a friend. It's Lisbon, it's chill.
