Capturing Culture, Colour & Movement at Notting Hill Carnival

Come and shoot the vibrancy and spontaneity of Notting Hill Carnival with thoughtful composition, storytelling, and respect for the community. Once again West London is taken over with dazzling floats, beautifully dressed performers, ear bending sound systems and sound of steel bands over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

Join us at the city's biggest street party and one of the most colourful events of the year! Shoot the elaborate floats and costumed performers as they dance along the parade route.

We will have a few optional exercises for you to help you focus and of course help will be provided with camera settings if needed.

The focus of this early morning session is on photographing dragonflies, damselflies, and the park’s red and fallow deer. There is also a Tawny Owl perched in a nearby tree just waiting for you to wander by as well as Heron and other wildlife all within easy walking distances.

We need an early start to catch the dragonflies before the heat drives them away.

After the dragonflies we'll move toward areas where deer and stags gather. We'll aim to shoot portraits, group shots, antler shapes, tree lines, and open grassland to create interesting images.

Alphanumbers
Discover hidden letters and numbers formed by shapes and shadows in the environment. This exercise trains you to see structure, pattern, and significance where others see only the ordinary.

Seeing Mono
Learn to look past colour and recognise the graphic strength of a scene. By shooting with black‑and‑white in mind, you’ll develop clearer composition, stronger narrative, and a more intentional visual voice.

Doubling Reflections
Explore reflections as expanded spaces and layered stories. Tom shows you how to use surfaces and virtual space to enrich your images with depth, complexity, and emotional resonance.
