Book Club #1: The Destruction of Black Civilization by Chancellor Williams

Book Club #1: The Destruction of Black Civilization by Chancellor Williams

Sat, Oct 3, 2:00 PM
From The African Archive Book Club

***African Archive Book Club #1: The Destruction of Black Civilization by Chancellor Williams*** 🇬🇧 Welcome to the first meeting of the African Archive Book Club! For our inaugural meeting, we'll discuss The **Destruction of Black Civilization: Great Issues of a Race from 4500 B.C. to 2000 A.D.** by Chancellor Williams, a landmark work in Pan-African thought. In this book, Williams explores the rise of African civilisations, the richness of precolonial societies and the historical forces that shaped the continent. Challenging the idea that African history begins with slavery or colonialism, he invites us to engage with a much longer and more complex story. To get the most out of our discussion, we encourage everyone to read the book beforehand. However, if you haven't finished it, you are still very welcome to join us. Bring your questions, reflections and curiosity! **Where to find the book** We encourage members to support independent bookshops whenever possible. In Paris, you can look for the book at **Librairie PrĂ©sence Africaine** and **Librairie L'Harmattan**, which specialise in African history, literature and thought. If unavailable, it can also be ordered online from Fnac or Amazon.

Impromptu : Romans graphiques : conter, raconter

Impromptu : Romans graphiques : conter, raconter

Sun, Sep 27, 2:30 PM
From Club de lecture - Les Mots Passants
4.9

Books & Coffee: Small Books, Lasting Impressions

Books & Coffee: Small Books, Lasting Impressions

Sun, Sep 20, 2:00 PM
From The Dreamers' Classic Book Club
5.0

"Some books are small enough to hold in one hand, but big enough to stay with you for a lifetime." Hi everyone! In this session, we’ll be exploring short books that say a lot in very few pages; books that, despite their length, will stay with us for a long time! This is a themed session, so you can bring any short book that you’ve enjoyed, found memorable, or simply think deserves to be talked about. It can be a novella, a short novel, a collection of short stories, or anything else that fits the spirit of the theme. There’s no required reading or a strict page limit, but the idea is simply to bring along a small book that left a big impression on you (but that preferably can be finished in a day, or to get you out of a reading slump.) 📖 As always, feel free to bring along a physical copy of your book for our tradition of a group photo and to share the joy of the cover with others! 📚 **P.S.** This is a small book club, and your absence can make a big difference! Please sign up only if you really plan to make it, and cancel well in advance if your plans change so that others will have a chance to join as well. Thank you\~ đŸŒč
