Board games, BBQ Potluck and New Years Eve Feastage Celebrations!

Let's celebrate the new year in board game and BBQ potluck fashion with new beginnings and lots of meat. Possibly some peoples birthday celebrations too so bring your happy birthday singing voice!

I haven't decided what I'm going to do for meats but maybe a pork butt roast or possibly a ham if my ham person comes through with some ham, and some chicken thingies. You're welcome to bring foods/beverages to pass around, or if you can't decide what to bring and really want to contribute, I am accepting cash donations (shits expensive yo!). If you do plan to bring something delicious please post in the comments so we don't have 15 bags of chips again!

I have several dozen board games and there's usually 2-7 games being played at a time. Feel free to bring any games you want to get to the table! We may do a Crokinole tournament or a larger group game at some point (Monikers!).

My 2 dog roommates Charlie Chaplin and Brittany Murphy AND 2 cat roommates Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves will also be attending, but aren't allowed to play board games nor operate heavy machinery while with fur on, so don't even try it! So if you're allergic to dogs/cats or don't like dogs/cats or don't like dogs/cats that aren't allowed to operate heavy machinery with fur on, then don't come.

This will be located on the far southwest side of Madison in the Glacier Ridge neighborhood; close to McKee road and Maple Grove drive, and a couple of blocks from Country Grove Park. I'll send out the address closer to the event day.

We regularly have Scrabble events and we're looking for more to join us! This is a casual event were all are welcome. Note this is a regular event and there will be more attending than those listed just here on Meetup!
In this classic word game, players use their seven drawn letter-tiles to form words on the gameboard. Each word laid out earns points based on the commonality of the letters used, with certain board spaces giving bonuses. But a word can only be played if it uses at least one already-played tile or adds to an already-played word. This leads to slightly tactical play, as potential words are rejected because they would give an opponent too much access to the better bonus spaces.

Open gaming at Noble Knight--join us or bring your own! PLEASE RSVP here on this Event Notification if you plan on coming. It helps us plan for you, and have great games available for you to play. Let us know if you will be late arriving--we will try to save you a spot in one of our games.

Newcomers are always welcome and there's plenty of people who enjoy teaching a new game to someone, so don't be shy if you don't know a game or any games!

There's usually a wide variety of games being played (think Ra, Spirit Island, Medici, Werewords, Spirit Island, Modern Art, Chardee MacDennis, High Society, Spirit Island, Meat Master, Tigris & Euphrates, Eclipse, Cat Ass Trophy, Spirit Island, etc.), so you should be able to find one you enjoy.

If there is a game you'd like to get to the table that you're either bringing or is in the game library, please mention in the comments below, and people can reply if they're interested so we can get a group together right away for your game. Be sure to include how many people you're looking to include in your game, and a brief description could be helpful.

You are allowed to bring your own food and drink, or order food to have it delivered. No alcoholic beverages allowed! They do have snack vending machines and some beverages for sale as well.

Noble Knight is a great location that has a huge gaming area in their store, a big board game library that is free to use, and they're open until 10pm on Friday nights! PLEASE BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR GAME FINISHED BY 9:45PM SO YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO CLEAN UP, PACK UP AND GET OUT BEFORE 10PM SO EMPLOYEES CAN GO HOME ON TIME!!!

Code of Conduct

1. Gamers come from all walks of life and lifestyles. We expect everyone to treat others with respect and understanding. This group is all about creating a welcoming environment. Discrimination, bullying, offensive images, violence, threatening behavior and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.
2. Clean up after yourself and keep any gaming space clean for all.
3. Destroy the stereotype of gamers being part of the unwashed masses.
4. Food and beverages are typically allowed but please check with whoever's games is being played that they're okay with either food or beverages around their game. BE SURE YOU THROW YOUR GARBAGE AWAY! We've been leaving way too much trash lately at Noble Knight and store employees are not your maids, so please don't treat them like that!
5. Clear off tables of the games you brought that aren't being played. There's almost always a big metal shelf NK leaves for us to put our game. Hang up your coats and don't just leave them on gaming tables. There's a coat rack in the back by the tall tables. Don't waste table space!
6. Clear the aisles whether in the gaming area or in the store front. Find somewhere else to stand if you're having a conversation with someone that's not in the way.
7. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed. All posts should be relevant to this group.
8. Avoid last minute cancellations and no shows to events where there's a wait list (typically non-game store events).

Donations
Running a Meetup group currently costs $300 per year (as of fall of 2024)! If you enjoy this group and the events, please consider donating, even a small amount to help support the group!

Donations can be made directly to Ben or Mark either in person or contacting them for PayPal or Venmo link, or by making a donation directly through Meetup, through the Pledge link (note that Pledge does take a percentage so donating through other means is preferred). Any excess donations made during the year will be turned into delicious treats, beverages and/or BBQ goodness for the group to enjoy!
