RULES FOR THE GROUP
· You must have a picture that includes your face.
· For any event where I have to make a group reservation (dinners), you must cancel within 36 hours of the event if you cannot attend. Failure to do so without an acceptable reason to me will result in your removal from the group. Please do not comment on the event that you cannot make it. It is not helpful and tends to make other people cancel on the event also.
· You are responsible for paying your bills at any event.
· You are responsible for transportation to and from the event. There will not be any official carpooling set up by any host. Since there is no official vetting of members of this group, please do not carpool with complete strangers by asking for rides from someone you have never met.

Walk the Dequindre Cut in Detroit with shopping and Lunch in Eastern Market
Let's walk the Dequindre Cut Greenway to Eastern Market and back to the riverfront. It is ~2.5 miles round trip with many beautiful art murals along the way. We will stop for lunch and/or shopping in Eastern Market
Let's meet outside the pavilion (Riverwalk Cafe) near the carousel at 10am. (see map) There is a parking lot nearby on Atwater St. I am not sure how crowded that parking lot gets on Saturday morning, so you might need to park in the Ren Cen parking structure a couple blocks south near Atwater and Beaubien. There is also street parking. The last few years I did this, there was no problem getting in to the parking lot in the morning.
The Dequindre Cut Greenway is an urban recreational path that opened to the public in May of 2009. Formerly a Grand Trunk Railroad line, the Dequindre Cut is a predominately below-street level greenway that runs parallel to St. Aubin Street, between Mack Avenue and Atwater Street, just north of the riverfront. Well-known for its examples of urban artwork and graffiti, the greenway features a 20-foot-wide paved pathway, which includes separate lanes for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
A half-mile extension of the Dequindre Cut officially opened in April 2016. It runs from Gratiot Avenue to Mack Avenue and takes pedestrians into the heart of Eastern Market. Buildings on each side of the Cut along this stretch provide users with a glimpse of what the railway looked like when it was a busy hub of activity bringing people and products to Eastern Market and to the Detroit Riverfront.
The Dequindre Cut Freight Yard, an outdoor bar along the Cut, is located near the Wilkins Street entrance of the Cut.

Monday Evening Bird Migration at Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Matthaei Botanical Gardens, 1800 N Dixboro Rd, Ann Arbor, MI, USMonday Evening Bird Migration at Matthaei Botanical Gardens
Monday, May 18 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmAnyone want to join me for this? This event is from the Washtenaw Bird and Nature Alliance
******************************************
Join us for a walk through the trails at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens to look and listen for birds during their northern migration. This leisurely stroll will wind through the woods on the Botanical Gardens’ well-maintained dirt paths and will involve ~2 miles of walking or less. The pond often hosts waterfowl and shorebirds, and the trails will take us through excellent habitat to look for warblers, thrushes, flycatchers, the occasional cuckoo, and other birds that briefly pass through Washtenaw County as they head north to their breeding grounds (and we’ll be sure to take notice of our local birds, too!).
All are welcome to attend, and please note that it is perfectly appropriate to attend for only a portion of the walk and depart as needed. New birders are especially encouraged to come along—the very best way to learn more about birds and birding is to spend time in the field. Please join us!
Visit Matthaei’s eBird hotspot page to see what species have been recently seen at the Botanical Gardens.
Leader: James Weir
Directions: Meet in front of the main entrance to the Matthaei Botanical Gardens building at 1800 N. Dixboro Rd.
eBird Checklist Signup: If you are attending the walk and would like the eBird checklist shared with you, please give us your email or eBird username here (you may do this onsite well): tinyurl.com/eBirdList
All are welcome and encouraged to join us. New to birding? Bird curious? No binoculars? No problem! There is no better way to learn than to get out in the field with experienced birders that love to help. Plus, you get to meet awesome people. Absolutely everyone is welcome and encouraged to come out. We will have many pairs of quality binoculars on hand for anyone to use.
