Hey Everyone!
**Welcome to Queer Book Club!
We read books about, for and written by queer people! Follow us on Instagram @queer_book_clubWe had a great time last meeting talking about hamlet and ghosts. For next month we chose to read, Notes of a Crocodile by Qiu Miaojin.
Our next meetup will be held on Tuesday August 12th at Young Ethel’s in Park Slope BK
This month we will be reading Notes of a Crocodile by Qiu Miaojin **
Set in the post-martial-law era of late 1980s Taipei, Notes of a Crocodile depicts the coming-of-age of a group of queer misfits discovering love, friendship, and artistic affinity while hardly studying at Taiwan's most prestigious university. Told through the eyes of an anonymous lesbian narrator nicknamed Lazi, Qiu Miaojin's cult classic novel is a postmodern pastiche of diaries, vignettes, mash notes, aphorisms, exegesis, and satire by an incisive prose stylist and countercultural icon.
Afflicted by her fatalistic attraction to Shui Ling, an older woman, Lazi turns for support to a circle of friends that includes a rich kid turned criminal and his troubled, self-destructive gay lover, as well as a bored, mischievous overachiever and her alluring slacker artist girlfriend.
Illustrating a process of liberation from the strictures of gender through radical self-inquiry, Notes of a Crocodileis a poignant masterpiece of social defiance by a singular voice in contemporary Chinese literature.
**At the end of the discussion we can vote on which book we read for next month so bring a queer suggestion.
Make sure to support our amazing host bar, by buying drinks! They are so great to support us so we must do our part in return!
We are a lovely accepting group of queers and allies, and all are welcome!
Our book list is officially too long for meetup and will now live on this google doc!

See you next month! - Queer Women Reading Whatever We Fancy: "Monsters: A Fan's Dilemma" (link below)The Center, New York, NY
Hi all!
Thank you so, so much for those who came last night- it was lovely to see new faces and familiar ones as well!
I'm going to project out a few months ahead because some of the book suggestions that came in or I've thought of might require long holds for library borrowers! This month's book (recommended by a new face!) was the most widely available (i.e., no holds). The topic came up organically during our discussion last night so I hope you all enjoy this.
Now that I know the space better, I'll send out more specifics for how we'll handle our usual potluck way of doing things- but stay tuned and no rush.
Here are the next few month's books (last Wednesday of each month in the same space at the Center):
September 24th: "All Fours" by Miranda July
October 30th: "The Catch" by Yrsa Daley-Ward
Feel free to message me any other suggestions you may have as well! And for my new faces, I can send you our list of previous books (we gushed collectively over some favorites) if you want a sense of what we've already read.
Hope to see you all soon!
Rebecca
