If you missed the live exotic animal Safari Races at Delaware Park Race Track last year on July 4th, this is your chance to see the most hysterical event ever! The jockeys race down the homestretch while riding camels, zebras, and ostriches! The whole thing - 3 races - lasts about 30 minutes. Races start at 12:00.

Parking is free, entrance is also free! You are welcome to bet on the races and win $50 in Slot Dollars!

If you are attending our 4th of July dinner, Tiki boat ride and fireworks later in the evening, you will have plenty of time to get there. This is a quick event!

Enter Delaware Park from the Kirkwood Highway entrance and park near the complex. They have a huge parking lot, but you may have to walk a little bit. Walk down through the short tunnel, up into the clubhouse, straight through to the back doors and down to the railing near the racetrack.

Join us in Washington DC for the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, including immersive pavilions from all 56 US states and territories, live entertainment, a 110-foot Ferris wheel, and a refurbished Smithsonian Carousel. We will also try to visit some of the newly renovated fountains throughout the city, as well as tour the new Lincoln Memorial Undercroft (I was able to acquire 6 tickets - July 9th was the only day available), and see the newly renovated Reflecting Pool!

We'll stop to see the Smithsonian Castle which has been closed for years for renovations, but will be open especially for the Great American State Fair, before closing again.

If we have time, we will also stop at the brand new National Geographic Museum.

This is a long day and we're packing a lot into it. Please don't sign up if you don't think you can walk for most of the day. The Great American State Fair ends Sunday, June 10th. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event that you don't want to miss!

We will be taking the 8:45 train from Perryville ($6.50 cash each way) which arrives in DC at 10:30 and begin our walk down the National Mall. Union Station to the Lincoln Memorial is 2.7 miles. We can use the subway to get back to Union Station and return on the 5:18 train, arriving at 7:02.

Let's go kayaking on Lums Pond (weather permitting)! If you don't have your own kayak, you can rent one. Be sure to arrive by 10:00am when the rental office opens to get your choice of kayak. Rentals include paddles and life vests.

Single Kayak, $10 per hour
Tandem Kayak, $12 per hour

We will only paddle for an hour on the lake. Bring water and snacks, sunscreen, hat, a towel and a waterproof pouch for your cell phone. Water shoes and a cushion to sit on are useful, but not necessary.

If you don't have a park pass, the fee is $5 for DE residents, $10 for out of state.

Directions: The main entrance of the park is on Howell School Road. Drive to Area 2 and turn right into parking area. From here, you will have to walk 2 or 3 minutes on a paved path through the woods to the rental office.
