It’s up to Franklin we’ll go and bike along the Allegheny River Trail. From Pittsburgh, it’s approximately an hour 1/2 drive.
We can ride the trail the first 12-14 miles, then take a break and checkout the Sandy Creek trail, aiming for a 28 mile round trip.

I have ridden this trail a few times, but never as a coordinator. There is a an awesome bridge, the Belmar, with great views. And the Sandy Creek trail has a bike staircase! Connecting the Allegheny River trail to the Sandy Creek trail.

Bring plenty of snacks, water, energy drinks, and a light for the tunnels, and some muscle, getting your bike up the stairs is a bit of a work out, see pix!
A late lunch in the quaint town of Franklin would be a great way to wrap up the day.
