What we’re about
We ride all over Victoria and sometimes beyond, on trips ranging from a few hours to multiple days and covering all kinds of surfaces, levels and places.
Our club has a proud fifty year history.
You can take part in three riding days (RSVP via MeetUp) before deciding to become a full member for $25 per year.

What is the Melbourne Bicycle Touring Club?
MBTC brings together like-minded people keen to share their experience. We’re a great club for anyone interested in exploring longer-distance bike travel, including camping and overnighters.
What is bicycle touring?
Bicycle touring (some might call it bikepacking) is all about experiencing the world on two wheels. Scenery, sightseeing and socialising are an integral part of our rides, and we love a good bakery (or cafe or market or pub).
Please be aware that everyone is riding at their own risk and the club does not take responsibility for any injuries or accidents you may have on any of our rides.

Swan Hill-Mystic Park-Barham-Kerang, 120 kms, Intermediate/Hard
Southern Cross Railway Station, Southern Cross Station, Docklands, AUIf you're a MBTC financial member you're welcome!
An easy, if somewhat, long ride skirting some creeks & rivers in central Victoria.
First day: 40.0 ks; second day: 80 ks. (no major climbs)
We'll take the 7.40 am train to Swan Hill arriving at 12.24 pm, we'll go for a coffee/early lunch and buy provisions before we set off to Mystic Park, right in front of Lake Boga, for luxury glamping accommodation: https://kangaroolakehotelmotelaccommodation.com.au/
Overnight accomodation fee is $ 189.00 so we'll divide this amount equally between the riding group. They provide 6 double beds bunks.
The next day, we'll have an early breakfast and make some food to carry for the day, although Merribit has a general store that closes at 2.00 pm, further down there is another possibility to get food at Koondrook/Barham towns.
We'll be following the N S W/ Victoria border (along Murray River) as close as possible.
We need to get to Kerang, on the second day, before 5.20 pm as this is the last train to Melbourne, arriving at 9.15 pm
Check route here (give or take a couple of wrong turns): https://ridewithgps.com/routes/53048568
The route is 70 % paved, so there is some gravel to contend with.
So bring your in good condition bike, we suggest 32+ mm tires, also bring warm clothing as temperatures could be low.
We'll keep a steady pace, stopping often to regroup.
No one left behind policy applies, but you need to keep yourself properly fueled and hydrated through the ride.

Merricks-Red Hill Loop; Grade - Intermediate, 49km
Bittern, VI, AUThis is a chance to get "out in the country" without really leaving Melbourne. Commencing from Bittern Railway Station we will explore the rural landscapes and some highlights of the Mornington Peninsula, visiting a selection of the The Somers General, Coolart Homestead, the Merricks Store, the Red Hill Brewery, and Gordon Studio Glass Blowing along the way. These venue visits are all dependent upon their current opening hours of course. The route is mostly on very quiet backroads and includes the Red Hill Rail Trail. We will choose a location for lunch based upon the group preferences for a picnic or venue location. There is a longish climb on the Merricks Rail-Trail after lunch but many of us really just need the hill training.
Sections of the rail-trail can get quite muddy if this recent wet weather continues. Plan for the ride - narrow-tyred road bikes are NOT advised.
I expect that we shall arrive back at Bittern between 4 and 5 pm.
This ride may be train-based or a car-based ride.
The ride route is HERE.
An alternative route if wet weather continues and the rail-trail is too muddy is HERE.
