About us

Are you in your 40s, 50s, or 60s and looking to expand your social circle? This group is designed to bring people together with fun, low-stress, interactive, in-person events.

Speed-FRIENDING for Mid-Lifers
These free events are hosted by the West Linn Library and give everyone the chance for a brief conversation with everyone else, regardless of gender or relationship status. Knowing everyone’s there for the same reason – to make new friends -- can make it easier to put yourself out there!

These events are not romantic in nature and you do not have to live or work in W.Linn to participate – all who are able and willing to be kind, respectful, and good-natured are welcome including singles, individuals who are partnered, as well as couples looking for friends to socialize with as a couple.

MEET'CHA THERE Community Events
These are select events happening in the community or hosted by other MeetUp organizers. They provide added opportunities to get out and meet people. As with all the other events, those who are able to be real, openhearted, and kind are welcome to join in.

NOTE
The focus of this group and its events is on meeting people, enjoying conversation, and potentially forging new relationships, either platonic or romantic. Please, no youngins and no soliciting.

MEET'CHA THERE!--Veteran's Night @ Vanguard Brewery

My Father & I 1st checked out the monthly Veteran's Night at Vanguard Brewing in Wilsonville in 2025, and we're going back for another visit.

We typically arrive ~5PM and stay toward the end -- during that time people come and go with ~20-30 attendees in total.

The 1st two drinks are complimentary, as is (some really good) pizza as a tribute to the vets in attendance.

My Father's the vet in our family. 'Heartfelt thanks to him, and to all of you who've served in one way or another!

Veterans Night
Vets night is turning into a really fun group of all ages, telling war stories, networking, and looking out for each other. Stop in for beer, food, and some camaraderie with other vets -- all vets welcome! Sponsored by www.ForwardAssistNW.org

Background
Vanguard Brewing is an independent, veteran family-owned and operated craft brewery located in Wilsonville, Oregon. Originally founded by a former Army Chinook crew chief and his wife who purchased a homebrew kit in the 80’s during their time stationed in Germany. Now owned by Ted & Silvia Minshall, Vanguard continues on, brewing great beers and providing an inviting environment for the entire neighborhood.

In truth, this is not a beginner class, but if you know some dance steps already, the upbeat tunes and swift pace will get you hoppin'!

Yes, this is mid-day.
Yes, it's at a senior center (AKA community center).
Yes, the instructor is an Elder.
Yes, most attendees are as well.
And... They turn out 60+ people many days and they really move!
(On a cool summer day, I worked up a sweat; which I can't say for all other line dance classes I've taken.)
And it's only $1 / hour.

TWO HOURS

The 1st hour is "easier;" but it would not be kind or fun for a novice.

The 2nd hour is billed as "advanced" -- basically, those who stay for the 2nd hour have been coming long enough they don't need any instruction on the dances they do.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Music:

Varied -- quite a bit of country, but a nice variety of rock with a great beat, including Michael Jackson -- LOL!

'Nice sound system

Attire:

Anything goes from dressed up to workout gear

A # of regulars dawn their western boots for the classes, but they're not required

Participation:

The instructor is friendly and personable

Turnout in the summer is often 60 people or more, generally retirement age and older

All ages welcome

The vibe is low-key, low-pressure

Folks are friendly; lots of laughter
