About us
Come wander the moors with us!
This book club is dedicated to reading the seven novels of the Brontë sisters over the course of the year. We’ll read all seven novels by Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë at a thoughtful pace, with discussions focused on atmosphere, symbolism, psychology, history, relationships, Gothic themes, and the strange feeling that these books somehow still feel modern.
After finishing the Brontë novels, we’ll read Elizabeth Gaskell’s The Life of Charlotte Brontë and Juliet Barker’s The Brontës. From there, we’ll continue into the wider world of 19th-century literature: Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Mary Shelley, and other classic writers whose work explores mystery, society, obsession, and love.
If you love classics and want to read them slowly and deeply with other people who love them too, I’d love to have you join us!
Meetings will be planned for Saturday or Sunday late afternoons to avoid conflicting with other book club schedules.
