About us
Out & Active was created to bring social events to the LGBTQIA+ community in North Jersey on a regular basis. This is a group for all who identify as part of this community, and enjoy a variety of activities such as games, food, nature, and getting to know others.
***Important, expectations for all members
The purpose of this group is to create a diverse community, where everyone is respected, welcomed and completely safe. Harassment and abusive or coercive behavior will not be tolerated. Anyone that makes racist, sexist, transphobic, or homophobic comments will be removed from the group. The organizers take this seriously whether an incident occurs at an official event or outside of Meetup.
Group Information
This is an LGBTQIA+ group, which welcomes everyone who identifies as a member of the community. We are trans, gender non-conforming & non-binary inclusive, and there are no age restrictions to the group.
Event Information
Read each event description before RSVP---and feel free to contact the designated Event Host if you'd like more info for that event. Please note that we ask you to RSVP only for events you plan to attend. If you need to cancel, remember to update your RSVP so that event host knows that you cannot make it.

Happy Hour at Shannon Rose [Clifton]
The Shannon Rose Irish Pub, 98 Kingsland Rd, Clifton Commons, Rt. 3 East, Clifton, NJ, USJoin us for a social gathering at Clifton's best Irish pub and bar for another Happy Hour!
If this is your first happy hour with us, when you walk in, we'll be in the enclosed patio on the left side. if the weather is nice the enclosed patio maybe open to connect to the outdoor patio where there will be live music. You can also let the host know that you are with the meetup and they'll direct you.
If you have joined us in the past we will be in our usual location. On Thursdays in the summer they do have live music outside on the patio so the doors may be open and the bar area will be open to all patrons. I will have optional name tags if you'd like to write your name and pronouns so that you can identify as part of the Meetup.
The food and drink menu is noted below. Please order something (does not have to be alcohol) to support this wonderful venue that's welcoming us in their space!

If it's your first Shannon Rose event with us here are some details.
*You can drop in anytime between 7-9pm, and stay for as little or as long as you like. It is common for people to socialize beyond the ending time but I (the host) keep early hours.- Often solo people come, some also bring their friends, either way you’re welcome!
*You don’t need to drink alcohol if that’s not your thing. - No cost to attend - we just ask that you purchase something (there is food options and tables to sit too).
*We’ve been doing this for 8 years now, and we have amazing folks that attend. If you have any other questions please leave a comment or send me a message!

LGBTQ+ Indoor Rock Climbing Night at Montclair Gravity Vault [Bouldering]
The Gravity Vault - Montclair, NJ, 8 Seymour St, Montclair, NJ, USJoin us at Gravity Vault's LGBTQ climbing night! (last Friday of the Month) This a great place to start bouldering for those who are new and great sets for experienced folks too.
Note: bouldering does not include ropes or harnesses

*$14 day pass when you RSVP here on Meetup. Additional cost applies for shoe rental. Pay at Gravity Vault when you arrive, just let them know you're with Meetup (they'll have the list) to get the discounted price.- If you have never been to GV Montclair then you'll have to complete a waiver (see below). Returning folks still sign a day waiver.
*If new, they will also give you a brief safety guide, please allow them to show you around before finding the group.
Event Details
- We usually hang out in front by the couches for the first fifteen minutes then wander around the gym together. Later arrivals are welcome, just look for the group with the name tags!

Parking:
There is a nearby garage at 7 Seymour St, Montclair (enter on the corner of S Fullerton Ave and The Crescent by Cuban Petes) for paid parking. Gravity Vault has stickers to validate parking: $1/hour for up to three hours.Otherwise the regular rate is 4 for up to two hours and 7 for up to 12 hr. Be sure to check the signs and read carefully because of possible pricing changes due to events at the Wellmont Theater.
Free street parking can be found a few blocks away in the neighborhood surrounding Main Library.

Labor Day Hike at Jockey Hollow [Grand Loop] - Moderate 6.25 miles
Jockey Hollow, Jockey Hollow Road, Morristown, NJ, USLet's hike the Grand Loop from the Jockey Hollow Visitor Center Parking lot. There are a few different parking lots, here's a pin on Google Maps.

note Cell service isn't the best in the area, download any maps you may need and be on time as I may not be able to check Meetup after I arrive
This is a moderately challenging hike with 1000 ft of total elevation and 6.25 mile distance, the All Trails link is below so you can assess the degree of difficulty for yourself. Note: we will have a different starting location so it will not be quite as long as the link shows (see photo for an elevation profile of our actual hike)

This is an outdoor hike in the woods so conditions may include: mud, wet leaves, slippery rocks, fallen logs, crossing streams, and other elements of nature. Wearing proper footwear is a must. I recommend bringing at least one bottle of water and a snack.You are responsible for your own safety when participating in any Meetup activity.
