Portland City Trail Walking Group

DESCRIPTION: Let's meet for a flat walk at The Tualatin River National Wildlife Reserve located off 99W in the outskirts of Portland. The reserve is one of only a handful of urban national wildlife refuges across the country. Situated within the floodplain of the Tualatin River, the refuge supports some of the most abundant and varied wildlife in the watershed. This refuge has one year-round trail, and one seasonal trail that opens May 1st. The trail is pro-wildlife, no dogs allowed.

RSVP Etiquette: Because parking at this facility is limited, if your plans change, please change your RSVP as soon as possible from "Going" to "Not Going" (or put a note in the chat). This gives others a chance to jump in!

MEET AT: Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge, 19255 SW Pacific Highway Sherwood, OR 97140-9292.
LAUNCH TIME: 10 AM
FITNESS LEVEL: Expect a moderate pace.
ATTIRE: Some parts of the walk are shady; some parts with a potentially big dose of sun, depending on the day.
GUESTS: Yes, guests are welcome! No furry friends at the refuge.
AFTER WALK REPAST: Group preference.

Meet outside Jim & Patty's Coffee, 2021 NW Miller Rd, Portland 97229. We'll walk the trails within the Forest Heights neighborhood. About 4 hilly miles with 700 feet of elevation.

Hilly 5 miles roundtrip down about 450' from the Hillsdale Library to Elephant's Deli on SW Corbett Ave.
About 25 minutes for coffee break, then return to start, passing thru the Hillsdale Farmer's Market (if it’s open). NOTE: Sections of the hike are steep & hilly, and are not recommended for people who are new to hiking.

About 5 miles out-and-back from the Holman Lane trailhead next to 3509 NW Raleigh St up to the Pittock Mansion on a lovely forested path.

There is a good amount of elevation gain (833 feet), but we take a moderate pace, and we usually stop for 15 to 20 minutes at the top to take in the views and chit chat.
