About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

Donnie Darko and The Wild Colonial

Apparently it's the 25th anniversary of the film, so they're rereleasing it in theaters. Again, thank you, movie gods. "But Sean, why don't we ever see a new movie in theaters?" Please place all comments into the tras—I mean, comment box over there.
Set in October 1988, the film follows Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a troubled teenager who inadvertently escapes a bizarre accident by sleepwalking. He has visions of Frank, a mysterious figure in a rabbit costume who informs him that the world will end in 28 days.
Join us on Friday, October 2nd for the 6:50pm showing of Donnie Darko at Apple Cinemas Providence. Afterwards, for anyone interested, we'll go to The Wild Colonial for post-movie drinks.
Meet by the area across from the concession stand at 6:35pm. We'll head into the theater when it starts at 6:50pm and meet outside the door when it's over to reconnect. Feel free to sit wherever you want inside the theater. Drop a comment if you have any questions!

Paddington 2 in Dexter Park
Armory Park, 73 Dexter Street, Providence, RI, USHere's our second collab with the West Broadway Neighborhood Association (WBNA) this summer: Paddington 2 outside at Dexter Park in Providence! Obviously if you were at The Princess Bride event in August, it'll have similar vibes. WBNA will be selling popcorn and the best brewery Long Live Beerworks will be there selling beer.
Join us on Saturday, October 3rd for a 7:00pm outdoor screening of Paddington 2 in Dexter Park. If you want to get there earlier and sit together, show up at 6:30pm. I'll put in the comments where we are the day of. Also, remember, this is an outdoor screening so be sure to bring your own chair or blanket.
The film follows Paddington as he is framed and imprisoned for a burglary he did not commit. To free him, the Brown family must find the real culprit and prove his innocence. See you there!

Cult Horror Night at Kimi's
Kimi's, 373 Washington St, Providence, RI 02903, USA, Providence, RI, USOctober's nice because it seems like so many venues around the city do horror movie events. Well guess what, so are we!! In collaboration with Kimi's in Providence, we are throwing a Cult Horror Movie Night on October 10th! Yayyyy, woooooooo, spooooOoooOooOOooooky. Well maybe not so much spooky but definitely a lot of fun. This will be a casual movie night with different movies playing throughout the night on the projector screen at Kimi's. Feel free to come and go as you please!
At 7:00pm, we'll start Troll 2. "When young Joshua learns that he will be going on vacation with his family to a small town called Nilbog, he protests adamantly. He is warned by the spirit of his deceased grandfather that goblins populate the town. His parents, Michael and Diana, dismiss his apprehensions, but soon learn to appreciate their son’s warnings. Guided by his grandfather’s ghost, will Joshua and his family stand a chance in fighting off these evil beings?"
At 9:30pm, we'll play Killer Klowns from Outer Space. "Aliens disguised as clowns crash land on Earth in a rural town to capture unsuspecting victims in cotton candy cocoons for later consumption."

The Blair Witch Project at AS220 Black Box
Black Box, 95 Empire St, Providence, RI 02903, USA, Providence, RI, USEvery year for Halloween, I poll the Movie Club Discord server on which horror movie to play at AS220 that month. In the past, winners have included The Thing and Alien. And this year, which is a little surprising to me, the winner was The Blair Witch Project!
The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 American psychological horror film written and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. The found footage work is a pseudo-documentary in which three young students hike into the Appalachian Mountains near Burkittsville, Maryland, to shoot a documentary about a local myth known as the Blair Witch.
Join us on Wednesday, October 28th for a 7:00pm screening of The Blair Witch Project at the AS220 Black Box theater. Doors open at 6:45pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:00ish. For anyone interested, we'll go to the AS220 bar afterwards to hang out (or someplace else downtown depending on the mood).
This is a ticketed event, and tickets are $7 each. You can pay with cash or card at the door. AS220 will soon have a preorder link up as well if you want to go down that route. Feel free to drop a comment if you get lost or have any questions. The Black Box theater is located at 95 Empire Street in downtown Providence, to the right of the AS220 bar.
