About us
Going to the movies used to be a thing I did by myself. But lately I've rediscovered how much fun it is to go with friends and to talk about it with them afterwards. So, here we are!
Providence Movie Club is a group where we'll go to a movie and then grab a drink after it's over to hang out and chat. I'm pretty omnivorous with my movie taste, so one week we could see something at the Avon, and the next be front and center at Morbius. Post-movie will change as well and hit bars, coffee shops, breweries, boba tea places, etc.
Don't worry about being a film expert or anything. I imagine conversations will go like most book clubs where you talk about the book for seven minutes and then everyone drops it.

Movie Club Mixer at Hot Club
Hot Club, 15 South Water St, Providence, RI, USAn outside mixer at Hot Club has been my white whale for a while now. I mean we had a mixer here last year, but it rained that night! Errrgh it can't happen again this year. Okay so join us at Hot Club for our August mixer! I love this line from Hot Club's website: "Everybody in Rhode Island’s got a story about a great night at The Hot Club." And if you don't already, now you will! There are a few areas where we could set up shop, so on the day of, I'll make a comment on here letting everyone know where we'll be at.
The event will start at Hot Club at 7:00pm on Friday, August 7th. It'll go on as long as people are around, though the official end time will be 10:00pm. I'll have a pile of name tags on a table for everyone to help differentiate who's there for the mixer and who's just there. Hot Club has alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, as well as a bunch of delicious food available.
The mixers are a great way to familiarize yourself more with the group and its members. As a reminder, there's no movie portion, only the hanging out part. Old members, new members, and anyone who has wanted to check out the group is welcome! It's just a space for people to socialize, no pressure. See you there!

Tales from Earthsea and Deadbeats
PROVIDENCE PLACE CINEMAS 16 , Providence, RI 02903, 10 Providence Place, Providence, RI, USIt's been a while since we've been to Apple Cinemas Providence. And it's been even longer since there's been an event on a Monday, especially since it's normally a dead day for people. But the theater is playing Goro Miyazaki's (son of Hayao, forever the asterisk next to his name) Tales from Earthsea. This is actually a Studio Ghibli film I haven't seen before, so I'm excited to see it on a big screen.
Tales from Earthsea is an animated fantasy epic based on the classic book series by Ursula K. Le Guin As crops dwindle and dragons reappear, mankind stands on the verge of total chaos. Lord Archmage Sparrowhawk, a powerful wizard, and Arren, a troubled young prince, search for the force behind this mysterious imbalance that threatens to destroy the land of Earthsea, in a tale of redemption and self-discovery that will take your breath away.
Join us on Monday, August 10th for the 7:00pm showing of Tales from Earthsea at Apple Cinemas Providence. Afterwards, for anyone interested, we'll go to Deadbeats for post-movie drinks. Programming note: this will be the subbed version of the film.
Meet by the area across from the concession stand at 6:45pm. We'll head into the theater when it starts at 7:00pm and meet outside the door when it's over to reconnect. Feel free to sit wherever you want inside the theater. Drop a comment if you have any questions!

Rashomon at The Space

Join us on Saturday, August 22nd for a 7:30pm screening of Rashomon at The Space. Doors open at 7:15pm, and we'll start the movie around 7:30ish. For anyone interested, we'll head someplace afterwards to keep the night going.
