🌈🚤 QUEER LADIES BOOK CLUB x WEST SIDE BOOKS & BEVERAGES: CROSSOVER EPISODE 🚤🌈
For one special summer meeting, Queer Ladies Book Club (QLBC) and West Side Books & Beverages (WSBB) are joining forces for a crossover episode! We'll be taking our discussion to the water with a private captained pontoon boat through BrewBoat for a sunset cruise through the Flats and Lake Erie.
⚓ BOOK SELECTION
This month's poll featured three books united by one completely serious theme:
🌊🚀🪐 "Women Navigating Vast Bodies of Fluid"
Space. Atmosphere. Lakes. Emotions. Anxiety. Relationships. Soup. It's all connected.
The choices were:
🚀 Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Campaign slogan: "Lake Erie is just space with fewer consequences."
Astronauts and sailors are basically cousins. Both trust their vessels, navigate hostile environments, and stare into incomprehensible expanses while trying not to lose the people they love.
🪐 Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin
Campaign slogan: “Technically, we’re all floating.”
Earth is floating through space.
Lake Erie is floating through space.
You are floating on Lake Erie.
Therefore, you are floating through space.
Plus, anxiety itself is a kind of fluid. It seeps everywhere.
🌊 Cantoras by Carolina De Robertis
Campaign slogan: "Sometimes home is the people waiting at the shore."
If space is an ocean and anxiety is a fluid, then “Cantoras” brings us back to actual water. Five women create a sanctuary by the sea and learn how to keep each other afloat. Their beach house becomes a harbor, their friendships become lifeboats, and chosen family becomes the vessel that carries them through impossible times.
And the winner is… “Atmosphere!”
🚤 BOAT DETAILS
We'll be renting a private captained pontoon boat through BrewBoat. The boat accommodates up to 16 passengers.
Final cost per person will depend on attendance and is expected to be approximately $50-$62 per person. To reserve your spot, please send a $50 deposit via Venmo to @kasekase86.
Please note:
RSVPing on Meetup or Facebook does NOT guarantee a spot.
Sign-ups are first come, first served based on receipt of Venmo payment.
I'll update the Meetup and Facebook event pages with the confirmed crew list.
If more than 16 people are interested across both book clubs, I'll maintain a wait list.
Once we have a final headcount, I'll calculate the exact per-person cost and let everyone know whether:
⚓ A small additional payment is needed (if we end up closer to 10 attendees), or
⚓ We have enough people that everyone's share decreases (if we fill the boat or add passengers beyond 12). In that case, I'll either refund the difference or, if it's just a few dollars, put it toward an extra captain's tip, whichever the crew prefers.
Current estimates:
• 10 attendees: about $62/person
• 12 attendees: about $52/person
• 16 attendees: about $49/person
⚠️ CANCELLATION POLICY
Because we need to be mindful of the fact that we’re dividing the cost between ~10-16 attendees, if your plans change and you’re unable to attend, I won't be able to issue a refund unless someone else is available to take your spot. Please do your very best to avoid late cancellations and no-shows.
