React is a powerful UI library - but it's not the answer to every problem in a complex web app. In this talk, we’ll share how we built Ludeo’s cloud gaming platform in the browser, where React played a key role - and where we intentionally left it out. From ultra-low-latency video layers to real-time interactions, learn how to architect around React, not against it.
Eden Feller is a Senior full stack developer at Ludeo, where he leads the technical development of the Ludeo Unit—a cloud gaming experience within the Player Experience group.
Started his career in Unit 81, and since then has built products for doctors, gamers, and special operations forces. He also spent time in the startup world, developing a product in the sports tech space. We all know Zustand — the small, fast state management library that’s taken the React world by storm.
But what if I told you that you could build something just like it yourself, in just a few dozen lines of code, with no external dependencies, and full control over how it works?In this talk, we’ll go behind the scenes of Zustand and explore:
- How the subscribe/notify pattern lets only the components that care re-render.
- How to use `useSyncExternalStore` to create efficient global state without touching Context.
- How to add support for selectors, shallow comparison, and even deep equality checks — just like a “real” state management library.
- And finally, how to wrap it all up in a simple custom hook you’ll want to take to every project.
This isn’t just another “Why Zustand is great” talk — it’s a hands-on session where you’ll leave with a working mini-Zustand of your own, and a clear understanding of the mechanics behind it.
Adir Kandel is a frontend developer with over a decade of experience and currently leads a frontend team @ Tenable. Passionate about creating clean, efficient UI architectures and sharing practical insights with the developer community. I previously co-hosted Front Cast, a podcast dedicated to frontend developers, and לא טכני ולא במקרה - which explores the non-technical side of being a developer.
