Rochester Backpacking Meetup

This is a casual meetup to get to know each other and plan backpacking trips.

If you want to go on any if our trips you need to first attend a planning meeting. (unless you have been on a previous trip with this group).

Important note: If you want to join us, please sign up for the event waiting list to start. Then, I will move you over to attending if you attend a planning meeting, or have been on previous trips with us.

Also note that the DEC has a limit of 9 people max without a permit, so the total number of people allowed in the meetup will be limited. Signup early.

This will be a overnight to one of the nicest backcountry camping spots in the Catskills. As long as we have at least two cars we will do this as a linear route, starting at the Overlook mountain trailhead. We will climb overlook mountain past the ruins of an old hotel. After enjoying the fire tower view at the peak. We will hike down to Echo lake where there is a lean-to and several tent campsites. On Sunday we will hike up past another view at codfish point and the out to the Devil's kitchen trailhead. From here there is also a very short and easy trail to a waterfall we could do as well (0.61mile, 101 ft ascent).

Saturday: 5 miles, 1392 ft ascent, strenuous
Sunday : 4 miles, 515 ft ascent, easy

There nay be swimming opportunities so bring a swimsuit.
