The Rockland & Bergen Social Sandbox is a friendly community for adults in Rockland County, NY and Bergen County, New Jersey who want to get out, explore, and enjoy life with others who are also open to meeting new friends.

We believe that making friends as an adult shouldn’t be awkward or complicated — it should be easy, natural, and fun! Think of this group as your social sandbox: a place where everyone can come out to play, chat, laugh, and try something new.

🌟 What We Do
We host a variety of relaxed, low-pressure social events such as:

Walk & Talk meetups at local parks and trails

Coffee catch-ups and brunch gatherings ☕

Game nights, happy hours, and seasonal events 🎲🍷

Local adventures around Rockland and nearby Northern NJ

Our goal is simple — to build a welcoming community where people can connect in real life, whether you’re new to the area, recently retired, working remotely, or just looking to expand your social circle.

Community Guidelines & Event Etiquette
Rockland & Bergen Social Sandbox is meant to be a friendly, comfortable, and welcoming place where adults can meet new people, make friends, and enjoy social activities together. To help keep the group enjoyable for everyone, we ask all members to follow these guidelines.

Be Respectful of Other Members
Please treat everyone with courtesy and respect, both at events and online. Behavior that makes another member feel uncomfortable, pressured, intimidated, harassed, or unwelcome is not acceptable.
This includes inappropriate comments, unwanted flirting or advances, repeatedly contacting someone who has shown they are not interested, or sending unwanted messages through Meetup, social media, text, or other platforms.
Members should respect personal boundaries. If someone does not respond to a message, declines an invitation, or indicates that they are not interested, please respect that and do not continue pursuing the conversation.

Keep Your RSVP Up to Date
Please RSVP only when you genuinely intend to attend an event.
Plans sometimes change, and that is completely understandable. If you can no longer attend, please update your RSVP as soon as possible.
This is especially important for events with limited space or a waitlist. Holding a spot that you do not intend to use may prevent another member from attending.
Repeated no-shows, last-minute cancellations, or failure to update RSVPs for limited-capacity events may result in restrictions on attending future events or removal from the group.

Paid or Reserved Events
For events where tickets, reservations, deposits, or advance payments are required, your spot may not be considered confirmed until payment has been received.
Please carefully read each event description for reservation and cancellation policies. Payments may be non-refundable when the group has already purchased tickets or committed funds on your behalf.

Respect the Event and the Venue
Please be respectful toward the organizer, other attendees, venue employees, and members of the public.
Members are expected to behave appropriately and follow any rules established by the venue or event organizer. Disruptive, aggressive, threatening, excessively intoxicated, or otherwise inappropriate behavior may result in being asked to leave the event.

Respect Privacy
Please do not share another member's personal information, photos, phone number, social media information, or private conversations without their permission.
Also, please do not add members to mailing lists, group chats, social media groups, or other communities without their consent.

This is a Social Group - Not a Solicitation Group
Please do not use the group primarily to promote businesses, sell products or services, recruit customers, solicit money, or repeatedly promote outside organizations without permission from the organizer.

Please Respond to Organizer Messages
If you RSVP Yes to an event, please keep an eye out for messages from the organizer regarding event details, confirmations, meeting locations, payment, or other important information.
If the organizer contacts you directly about an event and you do not respond within 24 hours, we may assume that you are no longer planning to attend and remove you from the attendee list.
This helps us keep RSVP lists accurate, especially for events with limited space or a waitlist, and gives other members a chance to attend.
If you can no longer make an event, please update your RSVP as soon as possible. Keeping your RSVP current helps events run smoothly and is appreciated by both the organizers and your fellow members.

Conflicting RSVPs / Multiple Events
Please only RSVP Yes to an event if you genuinely intend to attend.
If you RSVP to multiple events that take place at the same or overlapping times, it may indicate that you are not seriously committed to attending our event. Accurate RSVPs are important, particularly when an event has limited space or a waitlist.
Members who maintain conflicting RSVPs may be removed from the attendee list so that the spot can be offered to someone who is committed to attending.
Repeatedly RSVPing to conflicting events, or establishing a pattern of RSVPing without a genuine intention to attend, may also result in removal from the group.
We understand that plans can change. If they do, simply update your RSVP as soon as possible. Our goal is to keep event attendance reliable and make sure available spots go to people who actually plan to be there.

Removal From the Group
The organizer reserves the right to remove a member when their behavior negatively affects the comfort, safety, or enjoyment of other members.
Examples may include harassment, unwanted messaging, repeated boundary violations, inappropriate behavior at events, disruptive conduct, repeated RSVP abuse or no-shows, or other behavior that is inconsistent with the spirit of the group.
Not every situation will require a warning beforehand. Depending on the circumstances, a member may be removed from an event or from the group at the organizer's discretion.
Our goal is not to create a long list of restrictions. It is simply to maintain a welcoming community where people can attend events, meet new people, and feel comfortable doing so.
By participating in Rockland & Bergen Social Sandbox events, members agree to follow these community guidelines and help us maintain a positive and respectful social environment.

What is Meetup+ ???
Meetup recently introduced Meetup+ which has made it so that some features have been disabled or obfuscated unless you pay for a Meetup+ subscription. They changed the interface to make it look like people need to subscribe to Meetup+ in order to join the site, but you don't. It works just fine using the free option, it is just a bit more annoying. Organizers already pay a large fee to run Meetup groups. You do not need to pay to join this group.
