Rocky Mountain Cycling Club is a Colorado community of cyclists who share a love for adventurous, challenging rides. We offer a year-round series of club rides and events and support each other as we pursue our cycling goals. RMCC formed in the fall of 1993.

RMCC Thursday Night Climbing --John's Last Ride! (drinks after)

Thursday, Thursday, RMCC Climbing Thursday!

This time, join us to bid a fond farewell to John Babcock, Thursday night regular, occasional ride leader, and certified diesel. After the ride, we'll meet up at Barrels and Bottles to give John a toast before he leaves Colorado.

Otherwise, it's the usual deal: We meet at Beverly Heights Park, at the base of Lookout. We'll group up at about 5:25pm for introductions, route overview, sign-in, and other formalities. We plan to roll promptly at 5:30; if you're going to be late, please leave a message here (we'll try to wait a few minutes, if necessary).

We'll follow our usual route (see below) to start the spring, and we'll add in climbs (Genesee Mountain, Montane, Lininger, and more) depending on available daylight, weather, and road conditions. Changes will largely be a game-time decision, covered in the route walk-through and potentially adjusted as we progress.

As is the nature of rides with climbing, this is a drop/regroup ride. Because we aim to get in a lot of climbing in a short period of time, we have been known to drop riders, especially on the first climb. Generally speaking, if you're able to complete Lookout solo in ~30 minutes you'll be able to rejoin at the regroup points. We will roll from the parking area by Buffalo Bill's grave at 6:00, and lagging riders may be left behind. For you Zwifters and power-meter users, a power output of 3 w/kg is a good starting point. Expect some separation on the climbs, with opportunities to rejoin at one of several regroup points. Being comfortable in a draft will help on some of the flatter / roller sections.

This event will be canceled if weather or roadways are not conducive for a safe, fun ride. We'll cancel as early as possible, however be prepared for game-time calls as conditions can be unpredictable in the foothills.

Trinidad Gravel Weekend Day 1

Potential for this Route to change slightly however will include same general area, meet place and time.

When it comes to gravel cycling, Trinidad is a go-to destination in Colorado. The area features smooth, fast, challenging, and super-scenic roads! We will make a return to this area with this Challenge Series ride.

The total loop is 75 miles with around 5000 feet of climbing. Here is the course info:

I’m attaching a slightly longer option we can evaluate as we get closer, this follows primarily the same route however goes farther North and West at a higher elevation. Will depend on snow pack and groups energy level as this would extend to 91 miles and just over 6000 feet of climbing.

And because it is remote, be sure your bike tuned beforehand (when was the last time you refreshed your sealant?!). While we always look out for one another on rides, it's also respectful to others to show up with a bike that ready to ride. Also note that options to stop at a store and refuel are limited, so bring plenty of water.

The plan is to meet just outside the entrance to Trinidad Lake State Park on highway CO-12, where there is space for parking off the highway, at 7:45 for an 8:00 departure.

There is a good variety of hotels and places to camp in the area for people heading down on Friday night. Please note in the ride comments here if you are looking to share a room with someone.

As with all RMCC rides, this is a drop ride although we will regroup on a periodic basis.

For those who want to stay the weekend, we will also be posting a Saturday ride and shorter Sunday ride. This should be a fun weekend and a way to see an area of the state most of us have just driven by--please join us!

Trinidad Gravel Weekend Day 2 Pancho & Lefty’s Loop

Lookout - Red Rocks - Witter Gulch (RMCC road ride)

For this ride we'll meet at our usual Golden location--the Lookout Mountain parking lot just below the pillars on Lookout Mountain Road--at 7:45 for an 8:00 departure. We will then climb Lookout drop down and go through Red Rocks, and then climb Bear Creek and Witter Gulch. We'll then return via Squaw Pass Road and the I-70 bike path.
