### Who will be your guide?
Hi, I’m Janire — a fully qualified and insured Mountain Leader, founder of Ray of Sun Adventures, and general enthusiast for all things outdoorsy (bonus points if there’s cake involved at the end). Based in Shropshire but often found roaming the hills of the Lakes, I’m all about helping people discover their adventurous side in a friendly, no-pressure way.
On this relaxed but rewarding Lakeland outing, I’ll be there to lead the way, share local tales, and make sure everyone feels comfortable — whether you’re a confident hiker or trying your first proper fell. Together, we’ll soak up the views, enjoy a few laughs, and embrace that glorious summer-in-the-mountains feeling.
- Pontesford & Earl’s Hill Twin Peaks Sunset Hike | Shropshire | 3.5kmPontsford Hill, Shrewsbury
Join us on Thursday 28th August for a sunset hike with serious storybook energy. This short but punchy adventure takes in two neighbouring peaks – Pontesford Hill and the dramatic Earl’s Hill, a volcanic-shaped summit said to resemble a sleeping dragon.
THIS IS A PAID FOR EVENT. BOOK ON THE ROSA WEBSITE: https://www.rayofsunadventures.com/event-details-registration/pontesford-earls-hill-sunset-hike
As the evening light begins to fade, we’ll explore a winding woodland trail that leads us steadily upwards. First stop: the top of Pontesford Hill. From here, it’s a short but steep climb to the summit of Earl’s Hill, where myth, geology and Iron Age history collide.
Formed some 650 million years ago by ancient volcanoes, Earl’s Hill is now crowned by a well-preserved Iron Age hillfort and a classic trig point — offering panoramic views across Shropshire and into Wales. It’s one of those “wow” moments that rewards every step. We'll aim to reach the top for golden hour, pausing to take it all in as the sun sinks low and the sky does its thing.
Then, as twilight deepens and the dragon settles back into sleep, we’ll descend under the early evening stars.
