OCC Highland Lakes Campus hike
Oakland Community College north parking lot off Hospital rd, Luellen R Woughter Nature Reserve, Waterford, MI, USThe purpose of this hike (besides having fun!) is to raise awareness about efforts to save the northern 90 acres that includes the Luellen R Woughter Nature Preserve (OCC Highland Lakes Campus).
Schedule:
6:00pm: meet for an update on the state of the property.
6:15 pm: 3 mile hike (with options to turn back sooner) through the Luellen R Woughter Nature Reserve.
After the hike: optional gathering at the Redwood Bar & Grill located near the campus for food and further conversation. They have the best ribs and soup in town! The Oakland Community College Highland Lakes Campus is closing and the property may be sold. There is nature worth preserving here known as the Luellen R Woughter Nature Preserve.
Oakland County Parks and Recreation offered to buy this property, but the offer was never taken to the board of trustees for consideration. The Sierra club and other environmental advocacy groups are working to save our "Public Land For Public Use" and keep it out of the hands of developers.Directions:

Fall community service project at Freedom River
Freedom River, 6716 Winans Lake Rd, Brighton, MI 48116, USA, Brighton, MI, USWe are seeking volunteers for a fall community service project at Freedom River, a 90-acre outdoor recreation sanctuary & wellness center dedicated to U.S. military members, veterans & their families.
Help is needed to amend soil for tree planting near the entrance. We will be laying cardboard & moving donated mulch.
Recommended: bring work gloves, sturdy footwear.
Optional: If you have a spade, shovel, metal rake, or wheelbarrow it would be helpful.
Cider, bagels, and fragels will be provided (free) to volunteers.NOTE: This is a volunteer event with Freedom River; not an official Sierra Club event.

Huron Meadows Metropark Fall Color Hike
Cedar Ridge Picnic Shelter, Parking lot, Brighton, MI, USCome enjoy the fall color season with us on a 3.5-mile hike at Huron Meadows (with an option to end after 2.7 miles). Trails are mostly flat with a few moderate hills, and feature scenic views through forests and overlooking the Huron River.

Cost: free, but requires Metropark entry fee ($10/day or $40/year).
