Somerset singles walking group

WALK ROUTE
Starting at the pub car park we will walk to Winford passing the 15th C church with ancient yews and then go under the huge Victorian aqueduct that spans the valley and onto upper Littleton. From there, we travel through a myriad of small fields typical of this part of Somerset to the edges of Chew Stoke and Regil before returning to the pub.

PACE OF WALK
For those new to the group, please consider the distance we are walking and the pace. We tend to average 3 miles per hour on varied terrain. Feel free to message me directly if you wish to discuss further.
This is a relatively easy walk with 2 small hills and 400ft elevation.

PARKING
Please arrive at 10.15 for a 10.30 start and consider car sharing if possible.

I have booked for us to have lunch at 2pm and as usual if ordering food there is an expectation that we will go for the meal even if the walk is cancelled for bad weather (unless you give 24 + hours notice)

DOGS:
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a short lead at all times as many fields contain livestock.

Please note, I have NOT recced this walk beforehand hence doing it on a weekday to limit numbers attending. If you decide to sign up, please be prepared to explore and learn with me. Due to the terrain, a reasonable level of fitness is required. Once we know who is attending, we can discuss possible car sharing and any other planning.

Meet point
We could meet at Fairfield Car park - Avenue Rd, Abergavenny NP7 7DB. However, it does cost £7 for day parking - so might be a good idea to arrange a meet point to car share - although this will be dependent on how many people sign up.

Walk
This hike is 9.1 miles with an elevation gain of 2089ft and is considered moderately challenging. I will include the route and elevation in photos below so people are aware of the trail. There are some steep parts - with a reward of some amazing views once at the top.

Refreshments
I am planning to stop halfway for a packed lunch - so please ensure you pack enough food and drink for the hike. Looking at the reviews about the walk, we will pass the Sugar Loaf Vineyard on the way back - which is worth a visit - if people are interested.

Dogs
It states that the hike is dog friendly - and I'm taking mine although suggest they should be on the lead at all times due to possible free roaming livestock. Dogs are welcome at the vineyard too.

Meet point
We will meet at the Ring O Bells pub at 10:15am and drive up to Ed’s field to park. We will NOT be parking in the pub car park - this is just the meet point and we will follow in convoy to field. Alternatively, please park considerately in neighbouring roads.

Walk
Ed will be leading this walk which will be a 5.5 mile circular walk passing Sutton Mallet church.

Pace of walk

Optional lunch
We should return to the Ed’s barn/field by 1pm where we plan to have a shared lunch. If you wish to stay for shared lunch, suggest bringing your own crockery and please add in the comments below what you’re bringing to ensure we get a range of food (e.g. quiche, salad, crisps, grapes, cake etc). Please be mindful of the recent hot weather we have had and ensure food is kept at appropriate temperature in cool boxes if required.

Please note that there are bathroom facilities at the barn.

Dogs
Due to some restrictive stiles the walk is only suitable for small/medium sized dogs. Please ensure dogs are kept on a lead at all times to protect ground-nesting birds during the breeding season.
