Parking: The main parking lot is off of Wornall Road, but there are plenty of spots all around the park and off the street.
Where to meet: Let's meet at the rose garden! I'll be sporting my Kansas City Library tote bag.
Other details: This is an every-other-week event where we work on and share prompts from the book 365 Days of Creativity. This book by Lorna Scobie features 365 prompts (such as "fill the page with patterns," "draw a sea," "color the rainbow," etc.). Follow the link to purchase a copy (~$15).
Our meeting location might vary, so stay tuned to the comments for updates.
If you have time, check out this Ted Talk on creativity: The case for making art when the world is on fire by Amie McNee.
- Mental & Emotional Health DiscussionJohnson County Library, Monticello, Shawnee, KS
Let's go deeper than our everyday conversations and connect over a discussion about emotions and mental health. This is a safe space to have meaningful discussions about feelings and experiences we go through in life. If you're interested in reading, learning about, and discussing these topics, this group is for you!
About the book:
We will use Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown as a framework and prompt for discussions. Brené has compiled 87 emotional and cognitive experiences and detailed a grounded theory for connection! Reading the book is optional, as I'll likely read much of it aloud during our meetings and have a copy available at meetings. I've found it to be a great resource. Please check it out from your local library or purchase a copy! It's also available as an audiobook. How to find us:
After entering the Johnson County Library Monticello location (in Shawnee), proceed upstairs (if you look up and to the right, you can see the glass-walled, semicircular conference room overlooking the lobby). At the top of the stairs, make a U-turn. The room will then be on your right. If you get turned around, ask the staff where the conference room is located. Our reservation is under SGII Mental and Emotional Health Group.
Notes:
Our location is subject to change month-to-month because of the availability of library study rooms. So, double-check the posted location and comments before heading out!Space is limited. Please be mindful of others who might want to attend the event. If something comes up, modify your rsvp.
