What we’re about
We're a group of folks 50 & over who do moderate hikes, mostly in the South Bay on Saturday Mornings and alternating Wednesdays, 6-9 miles max at a moderate pace. For this group it's more about the community, camaraderie and journey than the destination, meet new friends who want to hike, and then go out to lunch after. Sort of like going to party where you get some exercise.
Disclaimer: I'm doing this because I like hiking and meeting such wonderful people. We're all grownups at this point and you're responsible for your health and safety. Hiking and changing weather and trail conditions can be dangerous. By signing up for these events, you agree to release South Bay 50+ Social Hikers and especially me and any other organizers from any responsibility, liability, or claim in law or in equity. If you don't agree to these terms, DO NOT join this meetup event. You are responsible for yourself. Please come prepared with appropriate hiking shoes, gear, water and a sense of humor.

See all- Joseph Grant Park w/ Crab BayRanch House Parking at Joseph D Grant CP, Mt Hamilton, CA
Temperatures are remaining unseasonally temperate so let's slip in the hike on the east side. If it's a clear day we will enjoy some of the best distance views of the Bay Area and Mt. Hamilton. But there is a catch. First, we must grind our way up 1358' feet of elevation gain on what will be an approx. 8 mile loop. So, not a great beginner hike, but very doable. Reviewers report sighting of wild pigs, turkeys, deer and Tarantulas. Remember tho, as cute as they are, do not pet or try to kiss them. Mostly unshaded so don't forget the sunscreen, hats and water.
There are bathrooms at the parking area.
Since there is a $6 fee to enter and a kind of harrowing drive to get there, carpooling is encouraged:
