This group is being formed to provide social gathering opportunities for people in the southern Duval, northern St. Johns area. We are looking for people who are 45 or over.please read ALL of the following before asking to join this group.
Our proposed events include, but are not limited to, dining, trivia, happy hours, car shows cooking classes holiday events bowling, laser tag, kayaking, exploring local museums, taking advantage of our local parks, and day trips to St. Augustine. We'll be adding more events as they become available.
After nearly five years of organizing and running a large Meetup group, I’ve landed here with this new group. This is going to run a little differently than what you’re used to with Meetup, and it’s important that you acknowledge this before you decide you want to be part of this group.
Other groups run things very differently, and that’s perfectly fine — that’s why Meetup has dozens and dozens of groups you can join. If you don’t agree with my line of thinking, that’s okay too; that’s what those other choices are for. Just be aware of my mindset going forward when it comes to this group.
The groups size is being kept intentionally small if your not approved right away its likely a Numbers issue just re apply in 3 to 5 months.
about attendance, much of our meetup has to do with reserved seating — then it gets a little sticky for me to justify you taking a seat and not showing up. things happen but twice and six mouths of not showing or removing your RSVP will result in removaL
Some of the events planned for this group will have part of the group pre-invited, with the rest as open slots for other members. This will be done on a rotating basis — not the same people every time. This is an attempt to keep everybody active in the group. For the most part, the group will be doing small events, probably under 12 people. I’ve been very successful running larger events too, and I’ll try to do those from time to time.
It’s also important that you put yourself on the waitlist if you’re available to attend something that’s already full. That tells me it’s a popular event or venue, and gives me the information I need to consider running it again.
If you’re not approved for this group, it’s not a reflection on you — it’s a reflection of the goals I have for this group , both for me and other members. I do solicit, and would love to have, ideas you see fit for the group.
Remember I’m doing this as a volunteer, in an attempt to set the stage for people to meet each other, gather, get to know one another, and become closer friends — not just to jump in and jump out whenever they feel like it. Being active, or making an effort to be active, is very important to maintaining your membership in this group.
