What we’re about

We’re prosocial introverts who like spending time with other people and intentionally seek the conditions that enable us to do that best.

Has this ever happened to you?
Wow, this Meetup event looks fun! Oh wait…15 people have already signed up to attend? Mm, no thanks.

Or this?
Wow, this Meetup event looks fun! And only 4 people are signed up? Yes please!
[message from organizer, day of event] cancelling – not enough signups

Well not anymore! [end corny infomercial]

South Metro Social Introverts is a group for socially adept introverts looking to expand their circle through introvert-friendly activities – in a small group, without a lot of small talk – in the Twin Cities south metro. A voluntary new member survey allows you to indicate the types of activities (e.g., games, trivia, sports, crafts, discussion, service) that appeal to you, as well as when and where in the south metro you’d like events to be scheduled. Early joiners will therefore have the biggest say in how this group is shaped.

Your event RSVP is important! This group’s events are kept intentionally small to be introvert-friendly. By RSVPing ‘Yes’, you’re claiming one of a limited number of spots for yourself (no outside guests/+1s). Only RSVP ‘Yes’ if you’re planning to attend the full scheduled event. Kindly update your RSVP ASAP if your plans change to give another member the opportunity to attend.

Is this group right for you? Ask yourself these three questions:

  1. Am I a social introvert? Unlike other groups that welcome wallflowers’ peripheral participation at their events, here we’re all expected and agree to carry the collective social weight (knowing we'll need to recharge our social batteries after!). So, if socializing activates your intense shyness, anxiety, awkward or inappropriate behavior, this group is not right for you.
  2. Am I able to reliably participate in events in the south metro (Burnsville and surrounding cities)? Members with a history of late cancellations, no-shows, and prolonged disengagement can be deprioritized for events (bumped from Attending to Waitlist) or removed from the group.
  3. Have I read the entire group description? That’s the only way to know that burrito is the word you’ll be prompted for when you request to join.

If you answered Yes to all three, then click Request to Join and get ready to meet your people. Note that currently this group is only open to people age 35-45, so for now, anyone who requests to join but wasn’t born in the 80’s will remain “pending.”
