About us

Welcome coffee, tea, and conversation lovers!

About Our Group

Welcome to a different kind of gathering in the Upstate.
We believe that the best cup of coffee is paired with meaningful, high-level conversation. This group is specifically designed for those in Greenville who appreciate timeless traditional values, the preservation of Western culture, and the principles that built our community.
In an era where civil discourse, listening to others, and compromise are becoming a lost art, we provide a haven for adults who value:

  • Character Over Identity: We stand by the timeless wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—believing individuals should be judged by the "content of their character" rather than the color of their skin or any other “identity” such as sexual orientation, ethnicity, wealth, nationality, or gender.
  • Meritocracy and Hard Work: We celebrate achievement, personal responsibility, and the drive to succeed through excellence.
  • Free Market Capitalism: We appreciate the economic freedom that allows local businesses and our favorite vineyards to thrive.
  • Free Speech: We foster an environment where ideas can be discussed openly, honestly, with a sense of humor, and without the fear of "cancel culture" or feeling as if we are walking on eggshells.
  • Civility: We believe that deep, traditional convictions and refined, polite, respectful social graces go hand-in-hand.

Our goal is to build a network of like-minded neighbors who cherish heritage, logic, curiosity, and the pursuit of the "Good Life."

If you believe in the value of tradition and the power of individual merit, we invite you to grab a morning drink and join the conversation.

If you love drinking a morning beverage in a sociable way, you've found a wonderful group!

I (Dom) like to visit a cafe or coffeehouse in Greenville most every morning. This meetup, by contrast, tends to meet mostly on Sundays but occasionally on a Saturday between 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., but members should feel free to arrive before or after 9 or leave before or after 10:30. We like to try out a variety of coffee shops. We especially enjoy a morning drink (coffee, tea, latte, espresso, cappuccino, etc.) mixed with conversation with new friends and old.

You should join us if you love sharing a morning drink and good conversation with others.

The purpose of this meetup is to sample the best cafes and coffeehouses in Greenville to savor a morning drink and socialize with others.

How good is the selection of coffee and coffee shops in Greenville? Fodor's Travel listed Greenville on its list of the best American cities for coffee. Our coffee houses like Methodical Coffee, Due South Coffee Roasters, Coffee Underground, The Village Grind, and Grateful Brew all got special shout-outs on the list.

While breakfast or brunch foods will sometimes be offered by the cafe or coffeehouse we meet at, this will not always be the case. Sometimes the cafe or coffeehouse will offer such food. Sometimes not.

I pay $200 per year to own and manage this meetup. While annual membership dues are not required, donations are appreciated.

Membership Rules:

Those wishing to become members are required to be approved by me (Dom) to become a member. Minimum requirements: (1) You must have at least a real first name in your meetup profile. (2) In addition, you must have a photo or realistic drawing of your face in your meetup profile.

Civility Guidelines:

The objectives of this meetup are to learn about wines in a polite, social, respectful, and comfortable manner.
1. This is not a “singles” meetup, or a “hookup” meetup, or a “dating” meetup. There are meetups and on-line dating services suitable for that. I do, however, encourage making new friends or strengthening existing friendships. Please contact me (Dom) if you have an unpleasant interaction with a member at a meetup. Should I receive more than one complaint about a member, that member – at my discretion -- will be promptly removed as a member.
2. If you sign up for a meetup event, please attend that event. If you are unable to attend after signing up, please be courteous by canceling your RSVP far enough in advance (at least a day or two if possible) so that those on the waitlist are able to attend. Our hosts work hard to set up an event for a certain number of attendees.  If you sign up for an event and don’t attend without adequate notice, it is disrespectful to the host. And if you cancel less than 24 hours before the event, it is unfair not only to the host but also those on the waitlist.
3. Do not reserve spots at our limited-attendance meetups "just in case" you decide to go. Far too often, folks sign up for an event with very little intention of attending. Such people do so "just in case" other plans fall through, or "just in case they feel up to it." The result is that a very high percentage of RSVPs do not attend. Please do not sign up for an event unless it is highly likely you will attend.
4. It is NOT appropriate to use this meetup to sell products or services. Anyone who does this is subject to immediate removal from the meetup group.

I have been told that many members are not being notified of upcoming events. If you are not being notified, please contact meetup.com support and let them know your account needs to be adjusted so that you are notified of upcoming events.
